Nigeria's Honourable Minister of State for Works, Bello Muhammad Goronyo Esq, has received an Award of Excellence and been inducted as a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management and Leadership.
Barr. Goronyo was also decorated as a Youth Vanguard Ambassador in recognition of his contributions to leadership, youth development, public service and national development.
The honours were conferred on him at a ceremony held at the Ministry's conference hall in Mabushi, Abuja.
Speaking after receiving the awards, Goronyo described the recognition as a renewed challenge to contribute more to humanity and national development.
“It is not something small. I take it as a big thing and as another challenge to serve humanity,” he said.
The minister said effective leadership must be anchored on transparency, honesty, integrity and accountability, adding that public office holders must continually strive to make positive contributions to society.
He said youth empowerment remained critical to Nigeria's future and commended the organisers for recognising his contributions to youth engagement and development.
Goronyo also thanked the Minister of Works, David Umahi, for what he described as their cordial working relationship since he assumed office as Minister of State for Works.
Describing Umahi as “a brother and partner in progress,” he said their collaboration had contributed to advancing the objectives of the ministry.
On the Federal Government's infrastructure drive, Goronyo said the administration of President Bola Tinubu had demonstrated commitment to addressing Nigeria's infrastructure deficit through major road projects.
He cited the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway and other strategic road corridors as projects expected to improve connectivity, facilitate economic activities and promote national development.
The minister also said the adoption of concrete technology on selected major road projects would improve their durability and longevity.
Earlier, the Country Director, USA, of the Chartered Institute of Management and Leadership, Dr Samuel Ojo, said the ceremony was organised to formally honour Goronyo, who was unable to attend the institute's earlier programme due to a flight delay.
Ojo said the Minister was selected as one of the institute's Youth Vanguard Ambassadors because of his commitment to youth development and leadership.
He said the Youth Vanguard Programme, being developed in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, would engage young Nigerians in intellectual, innovation and research challenges across tertiary institutions, the Federal Capital Territory and the 36 states.
“We have a lot of talents in the field of innovation and research, but there is no bridge. We are trying to create that bridge through this programme in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Youth Development,” he said.
According to him, the programme is expected to help young Nigerians develop and commercialise their talents, promote innovation and create jobs.
He said the initiative would operate at state, zonal and national levels, with plans for a national gathering involving the Presidency and the Ministry of Youth Development.
In his acceptance speech, Goronyo pledged to uphold the principles of integrity, accountability, professionalism, inclusion and respect for human dignity.
He also pledged to continue supporting human-capacity development and the advancement of the management profession.
