ENTERTAINMENT: BRITISH COUNCIL FORGES ALLIANCE WITH VIDEO WAVES INTERNATIONAL ON PEACE AND CONFLICT RESOLUTION

With Youths embracing all forms of vices, the British Council and Video Waves International has enjoined youths in Nigeria, especially in the Niger Delta and the Northern region to seek ways of resolving conflicts amongst themselves than resorting to acts of violence.

Livinus Otteh (DGN) is the CEO/MD of Video Waves International in partnering with the British Council seeks to use movies as a tool to develop the minds of the youths in Northern Nigeria and steer them to a new beginning in life.

In a workshop with theme: "GYARA KAYANKA"  (Acting Together Project), youths from Makera/Kakuri participated in what could best be described as a coming together of stakeholders for a better future for the Nigerian youths.

Present at the workshop, were representatives of the National Directorate of Employment, NDE Mallam Sani Maiwada, a representative of the Kaduna South Local Government Council and Mr. Eric John, a Peace and Conflict Resolution Expert.

The convener, Livinus Otteh reiterated the need for youths to be builders of society for a better future and not to allow political elites use them as cono fodder for their political gains.

In his opening address, Mr. Otteh disclosed that "GYARA KAYANKA" is a programme that is expected to challenge communities divisive perceptions of each other  and encourage dialogue and other positive behavious as means of resolving differences and managing conflicts.

"Our communication objective is peace, however, our project will deal with unemployment as this has always been a major contributing factor to generating conflicts and social disharmony in this part of the state."

"The sub-theme will include youth engagement and self-employment as a way of mitigating conflict", Mr. Otteh emphasized.
