The crisis rocking the arms scandal since the arms committee made efforts to submit its reports, has taken another dimension as some very influential personalities within the Presidency who are reportedly very close to the President are fighting against the full implementation of the report.

According to Presidency sources, some prominent cabinet officials who have been fingered in the report are allegedly making concerted efforts to ensure that their names are removed from the purported list of the arms scandal report.

Insider sources in the committee confirmed that one of the very influential aides to Mr. President is also purportedly involved in the whole brouhaha and is said to be working very hard in order to save his neck and use a presidential fiat to exclude himself from the report.

It was gathered that the aide, due to his closeness to the President, had approached the President seeking to be so excluded but, sources say the request to have his name deleted from the report was out rightly denied.

It was further divulged that the said aide who purportedly met with the President inside the villa, reportedly opened up as to why his name cannot be on that list of persons who participated in the diversion of funds meant for arms procurement and therefore, should not be made to appear before any committee.

An infuriated and exasperated Mr. President was said to have refused this request which resulted in a shouting match between the President and the obviously enraged aide of Interior who vowed to go the extra mile of exposing the whole deal to the world should the list include his name and that of his accomplices.

He warned of the dire consequences of having his name mentioned in the list of those to appear before the committee as most of the funds acquired from the procurement were said to have been committed towards sponsoring the President’s elections and campaigns.
