AVIATION: BREAKING NEWS: LUFTHANSA SAYS IT WILL NOT FLY ITS AIRCRAFTS INTO KADUNA AIRPORT

Ahead of the proposed plan by the Nigerian Government to close the Nnmadi Azikiwe International Airport to enable repair works carried out on the runways, directed that all airlines to divert their flights to the Kaduna Airport for the six (6) weeks duration, there have been stiff opposition to the arrangement.

Prominent among those opposing the arrangement are members of the National Assembly especially the Upper Chambers; Senate, many of them who have had the opportunity of having travelled far and wide and have reported never to have ever witnessed such closures bordering on excuses as mere expansion of runways.

Foreign airlines operating in the Nigerian aviation sector had also expressed their misgivings but the Minister of State, Aviation; Hadi Sirika had expressly made it clear that there was no going back in the decision of government.

Such decisions or impunity has made many stakeholders to query if the stakeholders; Airlines do not have any say in the matter. Who are supposed to be the beneficiaries of the repairs and facelifts?

However, LUFTHANSA has stated that its aircrafts will not fly into Kaduna airport and what this implies is that, other airlines may follow suit in pulling out and invariably, that means loss of revenue to the government. Who loses then?
