SEN. SHEHU SANI |
With
the damning revelations of the report of the Senate Ad-hoc Committee on the
Presidential Initiative in the North East, PINE reportedly touching nerves, the
National Working Committee of the All Progressive Congress, APC has invited the
Chairman of Senate Committee, Senator Shehu Sani to the National Secretariat.
The
invitation extended to Senator Shehu Sani, according to inside sources had
become necessary following the huge criticisms and outrage the report had
generated which had strongly indicted the Secretary to the Government of the
Federation, Mr. Babachir David Lawal.
Shehu
Sani, representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District on the platform of the
APC, has reportedly faced some level of attacks and criticisms for openly
embarrassing the party leadership.
Following
the invitation to the APC National Secretariat, Senator Shehu Sani has opened up
on the meeting he had with the Chief John Odigie-Oyegun led national Working
Committee (NWC) of the All Progressive Congress, APC.
After his visit and meeting the NWC leadership, the Human Rights Activist disclosed that the party leaders were not opposed to the investigations of the alleged fraudulent activities in the #1.3b Presidential Initiative on North East (PINE) contract, stating that the party leadership were only worried over his use of “literary expression”.
“They want me to slow down on some of these cruise missiles. I told them that it is either my honour or that of the letter that was sent by the Presidency”.
Tasked on his perceived attacks on the President, Senator Shehu Sani insisted; “I did not in any way, attack the President but I faulted the letter based on three (3) issues. First, my name was omitted in the letter as the Chairman of the Senate Ad-hoc Committee”.
“Secondly, the SGF said we did not invite him but, we did invite him and thirdly, the letter said there was no quorum”.
“I told them that inasmuch as my comment in the “deodorant and pesticide” was rattling, they should have invited the SGF for calling the Senate and our report “balderdash” and they also said they were opposed to that language”.
“They said they do not want us to wash our dirty linens in the public and I told them that at the end of the day, even if you wash your dirty linens inside the room, you will still have to dry them outside”, Sani stated.
Known for his open and frank responses to issues of national importance, Senator Shehu Sani has said that, “the Senate would release a detailed report on the probe of the contract”, which from other sources, has indicted the SGF, Mr. Babachir David Lawal.
Senator Sani stressed that “nobody can stop its investigations into the massive misappropriation of funds for the Internally Displaced Persons IDP’s in the North East”.
The revelations by the Senate Ad-hoc Committee on the Presidential Initiative on the North East has so far, compelled many to query the integrity and sincerity of the Anti-Corruption stance of the federal Government.
