SECURITY: ARMY SET TO ESTABLISH BARRACKS IN KAFANCHAN, KADUNA

The persistent attacks by armed herdsmen which
lead to the killings of over 800 people from December 2016 till date, has
resulted to the formation of a military barracks in Kafanchan, Jema’a Local Government
Area of Kaduna state.
Laying the foundation stone for the military
barracks, Nigeria’s Chief of Army staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai
in Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State said the event was in fulfillment
of the federal government’s promise to establish two military formations in
Southern Kaduna to ensure security in the area.
According to the Chief of Army Staff, “the setting
up of the military formation in the areas would consolidate the peace process
that had already started in the area”.
In his remarks, the General Officer
Commanding, GOC 1 Mechanized Division, Major General Adeniyi Oyebade stated
that since the Presidential approval for the setting up of military formations,
the Army has been looking for a suitable land to establish a battalion in
Kafanchan.
Speaking at the occasion, the Kaduna state
Governor, Mallam Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai disclosed that the state government would
provide and process the land title for the Army saying as governor, he was
determined to give the army a structure to start off operations before the
completion of the barracks.
