Prof. Yemi Osibanjo, Nigeria’s Acting
President has told Nigerians that that President Muhammadu Buhari has heard the
cries of Nigerians “loud and clear”.
Osibanjo stated this
following what can be best described as the first ever nationwide protest
staged against this administration since its inauguration in May 29th,
2015.
The nationwide protest which were held simultaneously
in Lagos and the Federal capital City of Abuja, on the 6th of February, witnessed a large turnout of Nigerians
who carried placards with inscriptions; “Enough Is Enough”.
Addressing Nigerians, the Acting President
said that, the present administration under President Muhammadu Buhari who is
currently on medical vacation, has promised to ensure that all Nigerians get a
fair deal.
Professor Osinbajo made this known at a
Consultative Forum on the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan held at the old
Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Although, the Acting President admitted that
the nation is in what he called a serious economic situation as President
Buhari had acknowledged it.
“We hear you loud and clear,” the Acting President said.
Although the nationwide protest was initially
the initiative of Nigeria’s music star, Tuface Idibia, which he said was for
the people of Nigeria who were passing though untold hardship with the
government not doing enough to tackle the widespread hunger and starvation
facing the people.
Tuface however called off the protest via a
video late Saturday night due to what he described as security consideration but other Nigerians who had keyed into the protests arrangements still went ahead with the protests which was peaceful.
