OPINION: MAGU'S EJECTION BY THE SENATE: NIGERIANS REACT

Nigerians have reacted differently to the second time rejection of Ibrahim Magu Mustapha, the Acting Chairman of the Economic Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC by the Senate of the National Assembly, citing issues of integrity and acts inimical to his office.

NAIJ NEWS ALERT spoke with some sections of Nigerians and many are of the opinion that, if corruption must be eradicated from the society, anybody with issues of integrity and corrupt practices needs not head such a sensitive position.

EDDIE ONO SORHUE:

It is not surprising to me that Magu’s rejection by the Senate the second time for failing integrity test.

I don't know his rank in the police but for him to have bought and occupy that expensive building by former Minister of information; Prof Dora Akinyuli showed how corrupt Magu is.

What is his total salary for the period he has served that earned him such a magnificent building? I hope the President will not insist in sending the name a third time?

How can you fight corruption at the same time encouraging it? Nigeria is endowed with human resources and he can look elsewhere and nominate people with unbiased records.  

Salihu Ibrahim:

Magu’s case is more or less, becoming an embarrassing decimal in the anti corruption fight of the Federal Government and if we must resist corruption, he should be allowed to take a bow while another candidate with a blemish free record be nominated and I think we will move on.

Abdullaziz Maina:

The issue of Magu and the anti corruption fight has assumed another dimension. Majority of the Senate members and even the National Assembly as a whole, are of the same political party with the President and it is perplexing that a common front cannot be reached before the re-nomination of a candidate that will serve the interest of the party and even their leader.
