EDO STATE HAS LOST A FIGHTER FOR DEMOCRACY AND RULE OF LAW...........Hon Igbuya
Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Monday Igbuya on Wednesday continued with his chosen course on good governance, urging lawmakers in the country to advance human rights, democratic principles, rule of law and accountability.
“Legislature exists in a democratic society to represent the people, to scrutinise the executive, to ensure the rule of law and to hold those who govern to account. The voters have done all of us a great honour. As lawmakers, a lot is on our shoulders. Let us make a difference. Let us improve people’s lives. Let us build a better future for our people” he said.
Hon Igbuya spoke at a valedictory session in honour of Second Republic lawmaker, Hon. Vincent Ogun.
He described the late lawmaker as a fighter for democracy and rule of law.
“Where do I start from? Is it the outstanding leadership qualities of the member that represented Agbazilo 11 Constituency in the defunct Bendel State House of Assembly? Is it his pivotal role in the social and economic development of defunct Bendel State? Is it in his passionate and altruistic concern for the less fortunate members of society?
He noted that Hon. Ogun was a vibrant legislator, grassroots mobilizer and philanthropist.
“Hon. Vincent Ogun, a principal officer of the defunct Bendel State House of Assembly, was a vibrant legislator, an astute politician and a grassroots mobilizer. He devoted the prime years of his life to the service of what is today known as Edo and Delta”.
Igbuya said Ogun had contributed positively to the development of Edo State and had departed at a time that his presence was most needed.
“A man of many interests and accomplishments, Hon. Ogun will be remembered for his kindness, tolerance and commitment to social justice. He will also be remembered for his outstanding service, motivation of aspiring leaders and placing the poor at the centre of his service to humanity”.
He called on the good people of Edo State to take solace in the fact that the deceased lived an accomplished life worthy of emulation.
“Certainly, his death is a great loss to the people of Edo State. As we mourn our departed senior colleague, let us give thanks to God Almighty for his very exemplary and accomplished life. Let us be comforted by the knowledge that Hon Ogun is returning to his Creator as a very blessed and fulfilled man”.
He prayed that God will console the bereaved and grant the soul of Hon. Ogun peaceful rest.
“I stand with the family at this moment of loss and pray that God whose mercies are boundless will comfort them. I also pray God Almighty to grant Hon Ogun peaceful and eternal rest from his labours on earth. Sleep well, my senior colleague, Hon Vincent Ebosele Ebhodiaghe Ogun” he said.
“On behalf of my family, the good people of Sapele and the Delta State House of Assembly, I convey my sincere condolences to the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Justin Okonoboh on the death of our senior colleague, Hon. Vincent Ebosele Ebhodiaghe Ogun” he added.
