NITDA DONATES DIGITAL CAPACITY BUILDING INFORMATION CENTRE TO NTA TO BOOST COMMUNICATION

In its drive to improve on the technological advancement of the nation's information and communication know-how, theNational Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has donated a Digital Capacity Building Centre (DCBC) to Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) at their Corporate Headquarters in Abuja.


This was done to boost capacity of the management and staff of NTA for effective and modern communication and to upgrade the quality of their production to meet with modern standards.

In a statement signed by Mrs. Hadiza Umar, Head, Corporate Affairs & External Relations, disclosed that the Director General of NITDA, Dr . Isa  Ali  Ibrahim Pantami, while commissioning the centre said; "the world has gone digital and archaic machines that were used twenty years ago cannot stand in this modern age such that, NTA has to go with the world best practice to make them relevant and updated".

"Besides upgrading, the centre has the capacity to train their staff with the availability of e-learning application,  server and wireless internet connectivity to allow access to different educational materials that will be useful for their development", the NITDA CEO said.

Dr. Ibrahim emphasized the need for NITDA to enforce its regulatory mandate as the clearing house for all government IT projects, reiterating that, this role is critical as it needs more publicity for it to be actualized.

Looking at the roles of NTA in disseminating information at home and abroad, the relationship will be a win-win one as NTA has what NITDA needs and vice versa, he added.

According to the NITDA Chief Executive, "the Wannacry Ransomware Virus is a threat and a lesson to Nigerians especially all MDA's and stakeholders to host their data in Nigeria with the use of .ng; by so doing our data will be protected from hackers".

"Those MDAs that host their data outside the country are at risk of the Wannacry Ransomware Virus", he added.

Speaking at the event, Director General NTA, Mallam Yakubu Ibn Mohammed, in his remarks earlier, thanked the NITDA DG for this gesture and hopes that the partnership between the agencies continue to be beneficial to the entire staff and takes them to the next level.

"NTA is a world class television network and the donation of a (DCBC) will help improve their production", Ibn Mohammed said.

Mallam Mohammed, while expressing delight, said that he is proud of NITDA’s local content drive as the equipments at the centre are from local manufacturers; Omatek Computers, licensed software and Internet Service Provider (ISP) from NIGCOMSAT.

Among the things donated are e-learning Apps, server, printers, inverter, scanners, air conditioners and fans.
