MAKARFI GETS 4MONTHS EXTENSION TO LEAD PDP's CARETAKER COMMITTEE

Nigeria's major opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has by the powers of its National Executive Congress, NEC extended the tenure of its National Caretaker Committee led by Senator Ahmed Makarfi.



This decision by the party today at its ongoing non-elective national convention in the nation’s capital Abuja, has been applauded by its members.

Acordingly, the tenure of the committee was extended, starting today 12th August, 2017, by four months.

This decision to extend the tenure of the committee followed a motion by former governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Godswill Akpabio, Senate Minority leader.

In a recent chat with Hassan Hyet, a chieftain of the PDP, the reconciliation processes in any grouping or society takes a concerted effort and it's a process which takes time.

This assertion by Hyet, state Chairman of the PDP in Kaduna, seems to enjoy the tactic support of the leadership of the party for the Makarfi led National Caretaker Committee to finish up its mandate.

Makarfi, a consummate political leader, is presumed to be on the right track at repositioning the PDP in its quest to regain control of government at the federal level.

In moving the motion, the Minority leader of the Nigerian Senate stressed that the committee needed more time to play the role for which it was set up and to ensure that principal officers are elected for the PDP.

Akpabio's motion for the extension of the Committee's tenure was seconded by a former Governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido.

Also, a decision was reached at the Non elective Convention which is the party's decision making body of the party for the dissolution of the leadership of the party in Adamawa, Borno, Kebbi, Ogun, Lagos, Kwara, Osun states.

The decision is part of the party’s efforts to resolve leadership issues in the states, especially in Ogun State where two factions have laid claim to the control of the party.
