2027: EBONYI DECLARES TINUBU SOLE CANDIDATE .... As Umahi Says President Has Transformed South-east

In what many have described as a major political endorsement ahead of the 2027 general election, the people of Ebonyi State have unanimously adopted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as their sole presidential candidate.

This as the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, declared that the state would never abandon a leader who has brought unprecedented development to the South-East.

The endorsement was made on Monday at the Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium, Abakaliki, during a massive gathering attended by governors, federal lawmakers, traditional rulers, political stakeholders and thousands of supporters from across the state.

Addressing the crowd, Umahi said President Tinubu had demonstrated exceptional commitment to the development of Ebonyi State and the South-East through landmark infrastructure projects and strategic federal appointments.

“We are not going to make another mistake. The past belongs to accident of history,” Umahi said, insisting that the region had witnessed a level of federal attention never before experienced.

According to the Minister, one of the flagship projects being executed by the Federal Government in Ebonyi State is the 123-kilometre Trans-Sahara Road project valued at about ₦445 billion.

“One single project, just 123 kilometres in Ebonyi State, is worth ₦445 billion. The road runs from Ndibe Beach to Nbeke Ishieke at the Benue boundary and stands as one of the President’s top legacy projects,” he stated.

Umahi also cited the ongoing dualisation of the Enugu-Abakaliki Road and the Afikpo-Uturu-Okigwe Road as critical interventions aimed at boosting economic activities and regional integration.

He further highlighted strategic bridge projects connecting communities in Ebonyi and neighbouring states, describing them as evidence of the administration’s determination to open up the South-East for growth and investment.

Reflecting on his years as Deputy Governor and Governor of Ebonyi State, Umahi contrasted past administrations with what he described as the current era of inclusion under President Tinubu.

“I was deputy governor, I was governor. There was no single federal appointment from here. Today, Ebonyi people are benefiting from appointments and projects. We are very grateful,” he said.

Governor Francis Nwifuru, who also spoke at the event, said the endorsement followed a careful assessment of Tinubu’s performance in office, particularly in infrastructure development, economic reforms and inclusive governance.

He noted that the South-East had benefited significantly from the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda and pledged the state's continued support for the President.

The gathering also endorsed Nwifuru for a second term as governor, citing his administration’s achievements in infrastructure, education, empowerment programmes and governance reforms.

Throwing his weight behind the resolutions reached at the event, Umahi formally endorsed both Tinubu and Nwifuru as the sole candidates of the state for the 2027 presidential and governorship elections respectively.

“And so I support the governor and the entire Ebonyi State in endorsing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as our sole presidential candidate for 2027 and endorsing Governor Francis Nwifuru as the sole governorship candidate in Ebonyi State,” Umahi declared.

Among dignitaries present at the event were Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo, members of the National Assembly, former ministers, party leaders and other prominent figures from within and outside the South-East.

The endorsement is expected to strengthen political support for President Tinubu in the South-East as political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections begin to gather momentum.
