TONY NWOYE FLOORS ANDY UBA, 8 OTHERS IN ANAMBRA APC PRIMARIES
The keenly contested gubernatorial primaries which had Senator Andy Ubah among the contestants lasted two days.
At the end of the day, Dr. Tony Okechukwu Nwoye, a medical doctor and current member of the Federal House of Representatives representing Anambra East/West Constituency defeated 10 other aspirants to emerge the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to fly the party’s flag in the Anambra Governorship election.
Dr. Nwoye had, in build up to the counting of votes, had taken the lead as reported by NAIJ NEWS ALERT.
The primaries which was concluded Sunday afternoon at the Prof. Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre, Awka, saw Tony Nwoye polling a total of 2,146 votes to beat his closest rival, Senator Andy Uba.
Senator Ubah, who polled 931 votes, had been the favourite of pundits and political analysts considering his towering profile as stakeholders had earlier predicted a four-horse race of the leading candidates which included Tony Nwoye, Chief George Moghalu and Engineer Barth Nwibe.
The Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, venue of accreditation for delegates from the 21 local government areas, witnessed heavy presence of security personnel deployed there to ensure that law and order was maintained.
The exercise was supervised by a committee headed by the Borno State Governor, Alhaji Kashim Shettima.
It would be recalled that the incumbent Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, had earlier in the month of August secured the ticket of APGA to fly their flag in the
elections while Chief Osita Chidoka grabbed that of the UPP and Mr. Godwin Ezeemo that of PPA.
