TY DANJUMA FOUNDATION TO PROVIDE FREE SURGERY FOR INDIGENT RESIDENTS OF EBONYI

In pursuit of delivering on its Corporate Social Responsibility CSR to the society, the TY Danjuma Foundation (TYDF) is collaborating with the Federal Ministry of Health to provide free surgery to indigent residents of Ebonyi State.

This was the revelation today in Abuja by Dr.Sunday Udo, Chief Executive Officer, TY Danjuma Foundation who led a 6-man delegation on a courtesy visit to the Minister of State for Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire.

According to Dr. Udo, the Foundation was reaching out to 50 to 100 indigent residents of Ebonyi State  with free surgeries  adding that the TYDF  was also poised to carry out advocacy, communication  and sensitization to raise awareness and mobilize patients for screening at a designated location at the General Hospital and Primary Healthcare Centres in the State.

The CEO of the TY Danjuma Foundation announced that the surgery will be done by a team of health workers at the designated General Hospitals or Primary Healthcare Centres for minor and intermediate surgeries to indigent residents of the state.

The project, according to TYDF Chief Executive, was designed to support the drive of the Federal Ministry of Health to improve the health and wellbeing of Nigerians as well as expanding the geographical coverage and reach of the TYDF to areas in dire need in the South East, he stressed.

Udo however appealed to the Minster of Health to provide the Foundation with technical support, provide tools for screening and identification of indigent residents as well as facilitate meeting with the authorities of the Federal Medical Centre Abakaliki , Commissioner for Health in the State and other stakeholders to drive the intervention to fruition.

In his response, the Minister of Health, Dr.Ehanire Osagie thanked the Foundation for the kind gesture noting that the Free Surgical Mission to Ebonyi State was a service to humanity which will go long way to alleviate the sufferings of the less privileged in the society.

"This pilot project is a welcome development that will benefit the citizens, I assure you of the Federal Government’s support to make the free surgical mission to Ebonyi State successful", he stated.

Also contributing, the Director of Family Health in the Ministry, Dr.Adebimpe Adebiyi noted that the Foundation proposed health intervention was in line with the Federal Ministry of Health Rapid Result Initiative for Better Health designed to reach out to 10,000 indigent people across the country.

"Though the Foundation was complementing the Federal Government efforts in the area of healthcare delivery which is worthy of commendation, adding that the 100 people the Foundation intended to reach out was inadequate", she said.

Dr. Adebiyi however appealed to the Foundation to increase the number to accommodate sizeable number of people in the state.
