LG ELECTIONS IN KADUNA: SIECOM POSTPONES ELECTIONS INDEFINITELY

Hopes of the Kaduna state Independent Elections Commission KDSIECOM conducting elections into local government positions, have been dashed.

The Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission (Kad - SIECOM ) on Friday announced the indefinite suspension of local government elections earlier slated to hold on December 30 .



Chairperson of the commission, Saratu Dikko made the announcement after an emergency meeting with the Kaduna state House of Assembly Committee on Judiciary in Kaduna.

In a very brief statement, the KDSIECOM boss while addressing news men after its meeting had that; “the elections have been postponed’’.

Explaining reasons for the postponement, Saratu Dikko said "it was necessary as the Assembly has not passed the new law to guide the election".

"So when the law is passed and signed into law by the governor we will make a new announcement on the election", she said.

Speaking, Chairman of the State Assembly committee, Mr. Kantiok Ishaku said it was erroneous for the commission to announce a date for local council elections when the Assembly had not concluded work on the law for the election .

"We have told them to tarry a while until the necessary amendment to the Independent Electoral Commission Law of 2012 is concluded", Kantiyok stated.
