Rising from an emergency meeting in the nation's Federal Capital, Abuja on Saturday, the leadership of CEFAM condemned strongly, the recent killings in Benue State where over 73 persons lost their lives to the terrorist activities of the rampaging criminal Fulani herdsmen".
A statement signed by the Convener of the group, Mazi Dickson Nnamdi Iroegbu, DGN, it described the incident as unfortunate.
"It is most unfortunate as it is on record that the leadership of Miyetti Allah, the umbrella body for pastoralist and herdsmen in Nigeria has alluded that the killings is a reprisal on the new Anti Open Grazing bill recently signed into law by the Benue State Government".
"Our hearts goes out to the families of the deceased persons and the good people of Benue State".
Accordingly, "CEFAM calls on all Nigerians to take time to observe a minute silence for the faithful departed who have since been buried in mass graves in their own country; their fatherland".
"We urge the Federal Government to rise up and show commitment and good leadership", it stated.
The Convener of CEFAM therefore called on all lovers of peace and country to stand up and speak up against this evil in our land. An injury to one should be an injury to all. The statement concluded.
