RAPE OF ADOLESCENTS: Who Helps These Innocent Ones?

A scourge; more or less, a cruel pain is being inflicted in the hearts and minds of adolescents particularly toddlers who have no knowledge of what they are cruelly made to pass through, but then, the stigma, pain, sufferings and scars remain.

Forever, it remains imprinted on their little souls and they are made to bear these pains for ever while they live. What a cruel society it is.

Rape!! In Nigeria, nay, Northern Nigeria, tales abound daily of young children especially toddlers of 4months - 12 months, raped by adults, persons old enough to be their parents and grand parents.

Is it for sexual satisfaction? It is a clear no. One is therefore compelled to ask what are the gains?

Simply for ritualistic purposes for either wealth or political powers and this makes it so unbelievable and blood chilling to the sane mind. Again, one is wont to ask? What do the law enforcement agencies like the police or worse still, the courts do to effenders? Offenders have in most cases, been left off the hook for lack of evidence and no doubt, allowed to continue in their depravity.

It could be recalled that, in one of the states in Northern Nigeria, particularly Northwest, a prominent prominent traditional leader had simply waved one very sad and heart wrenching episode off as the "child's destiny" when a baby of barely six months of age, was brutally violated by the husband of her mothers' friend. A friend!! How can people be so callous!!!

Instances abound but in some cases, due to poverty and fear as a result of threats, no report is ever made and such toddlers are made to carry such brutality and scars for life.

Who then protects these innocents ones from sexual paedophiles, perverts and marauders who disguise as family friends or worse still, relations and walk the streets, roaming and looking for who to devour? The law enforcers have themselves, become complicit and compromised for financial returns and filthy lucre.

Will the world sit back and allow depraved minds continue to ravage our little angels just because they seek financial wealth and political power? Will international agencies remain mute while this acts of depravity continue? Where is the law in all of this?

It has become very necessary for all parents, concerned citizens and stakeholders alike, to speak out NOW and defend the defenseless; the innocent toddlers who are daily raped and ravaged in Northwest Nigeria are crying out for help.

Government at various levels have pretended it never happened. Our law makers; legislators who are expected to provide laws for the citizens, earn fat salaries but have nothing to give back to the people.

The toddlers, especially those from indigent families have become easy picks by these scoundrels who garb themselves in fine clothes, are destroying our future leaders but no one cares.

Who will care for these little innocent souls and save them and their future?
