"GO DEMOLISH MY HOUSE IN ZARIA AS YOU CAN'T SHUT ME UP", HUNKUYI TELLS EL-RUFAI
Senator Hunkuyi, leader of the factional group in the APC that issued the governor a query few days ago, had accused the state governor of divisiveness which were against the people and the state.
In a surprise move in the early hours of Tuesday20th February, officials of the state government with support from security agents, demolished one of the properties of Senator which served as the secretariat of the factional group located at 11 Sambo road in the city centre, bringing the multi million naira structure to rubbles in no time.
Hunkuyi, whose vocal voice had joined other APC leaders in the state and criticized the governor for not carrying leaders of the party in the state along in the scheme of things, has said that the Governor should remember that there is another property in Zaria and in case he still wants to take it, should feel free.
Many stakeholders of the party have described the action of the government as embarrassing and a slap on apc and democracy.
Senator Shehu Sani, representing Kaduna Central, another avowed critic of the actions of the Nasir el-Rufai administration condemned the demolition of the structure on the floor of the Senate as he berated the governor describing him as "an affliction to the state".
Sani wondered how pettiness can be dragged into governance especially with a party that promised change.
A top ranking member of the party in the state chapter who chose not to be mentioned wondered how the would behave if he was President Muhammadu Buhari who is being bashed by his critics.
"Despite his being criticized, our President has not ordered for the demolition of people's homes or offices or businesses. What is el-Rufai afraid of"?
"We have loyal members of the APC who cannot be intimidated or harassedinto submissions by demolition or use of army and police".
"We will continue to ensure that the sustainable democracy and respect for rule of law, which we promised the people of Kaduna state, is properly and visibly entrenched. Not act of intimidation or coercion will make us do otherwise". He added.
Senator Hunkuyi who said that he has forgiven Governor Ahmed Nasir el-Rufai for allegedly pulling down his property, stated that, if the building had violated any code, it ought to have been brought to his attention.
Hunkuyi, while addressing journalists in Abuja, explained that he gave the
property to the APC as part of his contribution to it.
The Kaduna Geographic Information Service (KADGIS) in its reaction to comments from the public's condemnation of th demolition exercise said the exercise was in line with his agency’s mandate to “restore order” across the state.
However, Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi summarized it saying; “As my own brother, I wish to let him know that I have forgiven him as a person".
Pulling down his property, according to Hunkuyi, would not shut him up as it was not wrong to have a disagreement with the governor, he stated.
“Your own party, no matter the dispute, what will the military be doing in a location like that, to me if the intention of pulling down that property is to shut me down, it has given me more reason; strong reason to maintain
my posture, my belief, maintain my direction in standing strongly with the electorate and my people in my own state", Hunkuyi said.
“As I am standing here today, the 20th of February 2018, let that be an incident for the growth of democracy in that state; let it serve as a rallying point for those who have been shortchanged, pained in any way in my state
by the leadership of Nasir El-Rufai".
"This is not too much for a price to carry for democracy to thrive, a price to pay to express the opinion of my teeming supporters".
“Let me also use the opportunity to remind Nasir el-Rufai there is another property which I housed him, which he slept in some many times in the course of bringing some many people together to elect him as governor on
Queen Elizabeth road in Zaria. In case he forgets and in case he still wants to take it", he concluded.
