2019: "STEP ASIDE; Integrity Alone Cannot Take Nigeria To Promised Land"....Youth Group Tells Buhari
Coming strongly on the heels of the Presidency's announcement that President Muhammadu Buhari has signified his intention to recontest the 2019 election, a group of youths have asked him to step aside.
The Youths under the aegis of Nigeria Youth Forum (NYF) with strong presence in the 19 northern states, have called on President Muhammadu Buhari to shelve his ambitions and "step aside to allow the younger generation to take Nigeria to the promise land".
The NYF making this known in Kaduna on Monday, said the only thing that President Buhari has is integrity, but noted that, "integrity alone cannot take Nigeria to the promised land in this age".
Team Leader of the group, Matthew Victor Bobai, gave this position while addressing the Chairman of the Correspondent Chapel of the Kaduna state chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists when they paid him a courtesy visit.
Bobai who pointedly disclosed that the group was working assiduously for the candidature of Senator Ahmed Makarfi as President, said; "We want a Nigerian dream; a future that our children can fit in, what we can develop for the future generations".
"We are here because of Makarfi; as we believe he fits into the idea of what we want for this country", Bobai stated.
According to the Team Leader, "This current administration of Muhammadu Buhari is all about integrity. That is the only thing it has to offer and integrity alone cannot take us to the promised land", he stressed.
The NYF Team Leader therefore called on the President to, "please take his well deserved rest and allow his younger brother; Senator Ahmed Makarfi (SAM) to take up the mantle of leadership and replicate what he did in Kaduna state".
"His achievements in this state, have shown what he can do and we are asking the Chapel to partner with us, because, your job changes the society", Bobai said while appealing to the Chapel chairman, Mr. Midat Joseph.
"We have a dream and we believe you can assist us achieve that dream".
Speaking also, Chairman of the Group, Hon Gideon Goma Adawa said the group believes that, Makarfi, if given the opportunity, will make Nigeria proud.
"We are hoping to take our dreams to the next level and we are hoping to grow a Nigeria of our dreams".
"We are counting on you guys to assist us, because, we believe all of us will benefit from his wealth of experience", Adawa stated.
"Makarfi will tackle the quantum of challenges in the country; herdsmen, Boko Haram and the killings will be a thing of the past".
"We are calling on Buhari's friends to advise him to rest in 2019 and allow his younger brother to come on stage".
In his response, Midat Joseph told the group that, the chapel is always ready to partner with people that have the interest of the country at heart.
"Makarfi's antecedents is everywhere for people to see", the Correspondent Chairman stated.
"He is credible, he has the ability to change things. We are prepared to partner with you and tell the world what he has done".
According Mr. Joseph, "His simplicity and humility is known and he has been a good friend of Journalists and we will do our best to support your dream".
