EKITI 2018: "STAND FOR A MAN WITH INTEGRITY AND GENUINE CONCERNS FOR YOU", EDNA OWOLABI TELLS EKITI PEOPLE AS SHE DRUMS SUPPORT FOR DR MAO
With the Ekiti 2018 elections just few weeks away, the atmosphere is already spiced up with the political activities of the various aspirants running for office with some notable faces already declaring their intentions.
Many political pundits have begun to make permutations on who would likely emerge as the flagbearer of the parties and, from all indications, political fame may not likely be the determinant but, strong and appreciable resume of aspirants with genuine zeal to serve.
NAIJ NEWS ALERT spoke with Edna A. Owolabi, a successful entreprenuer of international repute and wife of one of the aspirants, Dr. Makanjuola Akindele Owolabi.
EXCERPTS:
Madam, we are quite aware that your husband is seeking to run for the governorship seat for Ekiti state. How has all of this impacted on you, your family and your numerous business concerns?
Again, how do you see his chances of clinching his party’s ticket?
His chances are very bright, I will say. As my husband will call it; T. I. E; T is for THOUGHTS, I is INTENTIONS and E is EMOTIONS.
My husband; Dr. Makanjuola Akindele Owolabi has very good Thoughts and Intentions and Emotions concerning his fatherland. Each time he goes home, he is very pained about how his people are suffering in a land of Professors; a land of intelligent people of which he is one, to now be the butt of jokes, all around the country and even outside the country.
So, his chances are very bright. The reason is, my husband has never come second in doing anything; be it from his youthful days, he has never been second and I don’t think he is going to start now.
Dr. Makanjuola Akindele Owolabi, "DrMAO" as he is fondly referred to by his teeming admirers and supporters, puts his all into anything he does or wants to do.
So, before he came out to say that he wants to help his people, restore their honour and their dignity that has been rubbished and that has been stolen from them. Mind you, I am not saying that it is only the governing authorities that reduced the people to this state. If the people had not allowed these people to hoodwink them each time by coming to flash a few ill-gotten naira notes and then, they vote them and take their empty promises or, rely on their empty promises; they won’t be where they are now.
That is why we are sensitizing them to say; look, enough is enough. Stop crying now and collect back your honour; your dignity by voting in, only people with passion, people with integrity and impeccable track record.
You cannot look at somebody who cannot even manage his home and you want to ask him to come and manage a whole state. Or, somebody who has never managed his own business before, or those who have run their own business before but how successful were they or their businesses. Now, you want to bring such a person to come and rule a whole state. of course, they will make a mess of it.
Mind you, I am not saying that my husband is the only intelligent person but, among the lot out there now, not just because he is my husband, I know that Ekiti will be very blessed if they can get somebody like Dr. Makanjuola Akindele Owolabi as their governor because, give him 2-3 years, other state will come to Ekiti to learn from him.
Ahead of the elections ma, what is your advice to other contestants?
For the other contestants, I will only plead with them that, they are all brothers. If they all have the same goal; which is to restore the honour and the dignity of the land, they should come together. Take for example, like in the APC presently, they have over thirty aspirants already with so many others still making noise but are yet to declare officially. Imagine that number from just one party; thirty-three persons cannot govern one state but only will one person will have to govern.
So, let them all come together and think about Ekiti. Let them keep their ego aside for now; keep their selfish interests and put aside their selfish considerations. I know a lot of people who want power but a lot of thes people do not know what to use the power for, when they get it.
If you have the right thoughts, the right intentions, the right emotions towards that, God Himself will back you and, I know Dr. Makanjuola Akindele Owolabi has the best intentions for Ekiti and I also know that, God is backing him.
Therefore, like my favourite movie actor, Clint Eastwood will always say; “a man or woman that does not know his/her limitations, is not fit to lead”. You all know your limitations.
So, let them come together for the best amongst you and team up with that person to chase out the rot that is currently on ground in Ekiti, and God will bless you all for it. Posterity will bless you all for it. Your children and grandchildren will be better off for it. For that sacrifice of today, generations unborn will look back and bless the people that made it possible.
