TRENDING NOW: ASUU Conditionally Suspends Strike; FG Must Keep To Terms of Signed MoU

Following the rescheduled meeting between Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU and the delegation from the Federal Govt. earlier today, Nigerian students and their parents heaved a sigh of relief.

The sigh of relief follows the decision of ASUU to officially suspend its over three months old strike.

The suspension of the strike, according to ASUU is being done conditionally as the Union also urged that the federal government must adhere to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed.

It disclosed that it would communicate with university lecturers on when to resume duty.

The news of the suspension of the strike was announced Thursday evening after a meeting with the Ngige led government delegation.

At the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed with the federal government delegation led by the Honourable Minister of Labour, Senator Chris Ngige.

Earlier, Sen. Ngige said both parties produced “collective agreement of action” after the meeting.

It eould be recalled that ASUU had embarked on an indefinite strike since November 2018, following government’s failure to implement the agreement reached with the union in November 2016.
