2023: DELTA LEADERS STRATEGIZE AHEAD, APPOINTS COORDINATORS

Ahead of the next elections in 2023, political leaders in oil rich Delta state have begun extensive consultations on who becomes the next governor as they have chosen to opt for a choice candidate outside Delta political class.



To actualize their goals, the leaders have commenced moves in appointing coordinators in Africa, Europe and America even as it has also opened offices in Sapele, Warri, Asaba, the state capital.

Eminent personalities from Delta State on Saturday spoke at length about the future of the oil rich state and the need for a transparent leadership in 2023.

The leaders also vowed to see to it that only those who are morally and intellectually competent, occupy positions in Delta State.

"We need men and women of integrity who will make existence meaningful, create opportunities for the people and also, revolutionize social infrastructure".

At a meeting convened by Delta Leaders of Thought, a group advancing the synergy of Itsekiri, Ijaw, Urhobo, Isoko and Anioma stakeholders, the leaders listed experience in government, track record of achievement, contact and acceptability in Nigeria and abroad as qualities the next Governor of Delta State must possess.

Director of Communications, Delta 2023 Governorship Project, Olorogun Ochuko Oki spoke to journalists in Lagos on the outcome of the meeting.

He said the leaders spoke extensively on the type of leadership needed in 2023.

"We require a visionary, dynamic and resilient governor who will address the core issues of this potentially great state. The person should have the strength of character and charisma to motivate the people, guarantee basic workers' rights, build infrastructure at the barest cost and create an industrial Delta where everyone who seek, can find employment".

They also spoke on the quality and character of democratic leadership.

"Delta state needs men and women of integrity, people with character and vision, leader whose antecedents exemplify them for the positions they seek to occupy,  people who have the decency to live above board".

They appealed to the good people of Delta state, of all shades of opinion and political persuasion to join the Delta 2023 Group in working towards consensus that will serve as a fountain for the revitalization of Delta state".

"Delta State does not deserve a stooge. We need a Governor who is humane and concerned about the welfare of the people. We need a Governor who will re-engineer the private sector, accelerate the improvement in infrastructure, industry and agriculture", the representatives of all ethnic associations, opinion leaders and professional bodies said.

The leaders noted that there are people outside the current political class in Delta state who have been providing dedicated service to the people.

"The 2023 Governorship has been zoned to Delta Central. One of those providing dedicated service to the Niger Delta people will be Governor in 2023".
