INSECURITY: TAKUM BASED BIZMAN KIDNAPPED; Family Pay #100m Ransom But Yet To See Their Son

The insecurity situation in Taraba state, Northeast of Nigeria, as it relates to clashes between herdsmen and farmers seems to have degenerated with kidnapping being added, making many prominent businessmen relocate to safer states.


Only recently, a prominent businessman based in Takum, Alhaji Mayo was reportedly kidnapped by yet to be identified persons who have demanded a ransom of #100m for his release.

However, reports available revealed that, despite having met the demands of the kidnappers, his abductors are yet to effect the release of Alhaji Mayo which is causing serious concerns for his family after their collection of the demanded sum of N100 million.

According to Mallam Ibrahim Mayo, Spokesperson of the abducted businessman’s family while speaking with the media, disclosed that Alhaji Mayo was abducted forty days ago in Takum with the abductors demanding N100 million which has been paid but they have refused to release  to his family.

He disclosed that the abductors of their brother, having collected the initial sum of  N100million which they had demanded, made a further demand of another N100 million.

"After series of negotiation between family members of Alhaji Mayo over the demand of another #100 million naira as ransom, the abductors have stopped further communication", he stated with dismay.

"Family members and friends of Alhaji Mayo are now in confusion over the fate of our brother because, it is not certain if our brother is still alive", he lamented.

Expressing his fears over the fate of their brother, Mallam Ibrahim revealed that their fears were because of what happened to a member of the Taraba State House of Assembly, Mr Hosea Ibbi, who was abducted in December 2018 but got killed after his family paid N28 million ransom.

According to Ibrahim, "the abduction of Mayo was beyond mere kidnapping, adding that there could be other motives behind the abduction.
