Local government workers across the oil rich Delta state have been called upon to dedicate themselves with the view to boosting the third tier of government.
Making this call in Warri, was the Chairman of the Delta State local Government Service Commission, Dr. Joseph Otirhue.
He gave this charge when he led other members of the commission on a tour to Warri North and Ethiope West local government areas.
Otirhue, revealed that the essence of his visit was to familiarize with staff of the different local government councils in the state even as he added that his parley with them would help the Commission get first hand information about their working conditions.
Reaffirming the commitment of the Delta State government towards the development of the grassroots, Dr. Otirhue sued for good working relationship between the local government workers and the different Council chairmen.
It will be recalled that Dr. Joseph Otirhue who had previously served as Special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government Affairs, urged the local government staff to be alive to their duties by ensuring they clock in and out, when necessary, in order to avoid having their names removed from the payroll.
He warned staff of the local government staff to elect only credible persons into authority, while also noting that his tenure is driven by the stronger Delta vision of the state Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa to leave a lasting legacy at the Local Government Service Commission.
Head of personnel management Warri North local government Mr Augustine Amigo and his counterpart from Ethiope West local government council Mr Macauley Ukutsemuya in their separate remarks say the local government workers have enjoyed a robust understanding with their council chairmen.
They however mentioned some of the challenges facing the council workers including shortage of staff, manpower and lack of adequate offices for the staff.
