DAKUKU PETERSIDE: THREAT BY SENATE IN BAD TASTE
"It is very unfortunate that the Committee would rather, chose to trivialize such a serious national assignment"..... Eze
"Dr. Peterside is not on the run as mischievously insinuated as he will appear before the committee at the appropriate time.
Following the threat by the Upper Chambers of the National Assembly, to issue a bench warrant of arrest on the Director General of the Nigeria Maritime and Safety Agency, NIMASA, Dr. Dakuku Peterside, concerned Nigerians have described the threat as an action in bad faith.
It will be recalled that, Dr. Peterside, a known ally of the Honourable Minister of Transport, Chief Rotimi Amaechi is from the same state with the Senate Committee on Transport, which is chaired Senator George Thompson Sekibo of Rivers East Senatorial District, a known supporter of Gov. Wike and staunch political opponent of Dr. Peterside.
However, what is of paramount concern to stakeholders is the threat issue of a Bench Warrant of Arrest on the NIMASA DG who the committee members are aware is out of the country on official engagement overseas, of the International Maritime Organisation, IMO.
According to Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, a top ranking member of the All Progressive Congress party, it is very unfortunate that the Committee would rather, chose to trivialize such a serious national assignment.
"Dr. Peterside is not on the run as mischievously insinuated as he will appear before the committee at the appropriate time which is when is through with the national assignment".
"It is rather, most unfortunate and regrettable that people will chose to churn out sensational news stories just to smear the image of a perceived opponent especially from the Abe/Wike camp".
Stakeholders from the state have however, called on all warring parties to sheathe their swords and also, drop their political differences in the interest of the good people of Rivers state saying, such squabbles will not impact positively on the development and well being of the state.
