Black Saturday As Gas Explosion Kills Six
It was a black Saturday, 4th January for some residents of Ungwan Boro, situated off the ever busy Kachia road when a gas cylinder exploded, killing over five people on the spot.
Eyewitness accounts reports that unfortunate incident occurred while a cylinder was being refilled for a customer as it blew up, killing the owner of the shop and persons nearby.
The shop which is located by the road, caters for mostly welders and others using industrial gas for welding and other purposes.
An source who spoke with our reporter, disclosed that the sound of the explosion was so deafening, sent people and commuter, especially keke operators driving pass, scampering different directions for safety.
The shop, which is directly opposite the Total Fuel station on Kachia road, is reported to have been there for several years without any such reports or happenings.
"Sadly, a university Don, who had gone to have a haircut in a barbing salon, was among those reported to have died", our source stated.
The incident which was said to have occurred at about 1:34pm, sent shock into many within the vicinity as the area was littered with human flesh and torn limbs. The police and FRSC personnel had a hectic time controlling the surging crowd of residents from far and near who wanted to see first hand, the unfortunate incident.
Former Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to Governor el-Rufai, Mr. Samuel Aruwan who is now the Honourable Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Homeland Security, was amongst the first callers to ascertain the real cause of the unfortunate incident.
