VIOLENCE AGAINST CHILDREN AND WOMEN IN KADUNA..... NSCDC Commences Steps To End Incidences

With the reported increase in the case of violence against women and children in Kaduna state, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Kaduna State Command has initiated programmes to tackle the menace and bring it to an end.


The Kaduna Command of the NSCDC in a statement released on Monday 06th disclosed that, through its Anti-Human Trafficking Unit it received and treated 30 cases in the state last year.

The statement which signed by the state Public Relations Officer, ASC Orndiir Terzungwe on behalf of the State Commandant, Babangida Abdullahi Dutsinma revealed that, according to its 2019 Annual Report released by the unit, "a total of 30 cases were reported to the Command for investigation and, further actions by the State Ministry of Human Services and Social Development, being a collaborating agency in ending violence against children".

"The report indicates that some of the cases were traced to community members from eight Local Government Areas of the State", the statement read.

"A break down shows that out of the total number of reports received, cases of child trafficking for labour exploitation were mostly from Jigawa, Katsina and Kaduna States and, 16 survivors were rescued and reunited with their families".

The statement revealed that three suspects held in connection with the cases of child trafficking and labour, were handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), for further investigation.

On sexual violence, two defendants were remanded in prison custody while their case files were referred to the Ministry of Justice for legal advice.

The Command disclosed that cases of domestic violence were referred to the Ministry of Justice’s Citizens Right for Mediation, just as cases of physical violence were treated out of court and, survivors were reunited with biological parents for further care and supervision by the State Ministry of Human Services and Social Development.

Terzungwe, in the statement, informed that, "in furtherance of its tasks, the unit provided support for survivors of juvenile delinquency who were later sheltered by the collaborating ministry".

The report maintains that as a form of succor for survivors, cases of child neglect were handled out of court and survivors were also reunited with family members and alimony is being paid for upkeep of victims.
