NEW MINIMUM WAGE: ADAMAMWA GOV PROMISES IMPLEMENTATION OF CONSEQUENTIAL ADJUSTMENT

The Executive Governor of Adamawa state, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has assured workers in the state of his administration’s readiness to implement the consequential adjustment of the National Minimum wage on state government workers from level seven and above, by February.

The governor stated this over the weekend, during a town hall meeting in Numan while addressing elders, academics, trade unions, religious groups, party leaders among other representatives of stakeholders.

According to a statement from Mr. Love Zidon, SSA on New Media to  Governor Fintiri, “the meeting was to review the progress so far achieved by the present administration and know the problems of the people in the state”.

“The Adamawa state government has implemented thirty two thousand naira as national minimum wage for workers in the state and efforts are on top gear to reposition the civil service through improvement in the welfare of workers and give them other incentives”, the governor revealed.

In his address at the Numan meeting, Governor Umaru Finitiri disclosed that under his watch, “the present administration has so far invested about eight billion naira in the primary school education in the state adding that, renovation of the schools were ongoing and government has sent consultants for assessment of schools in the state for necessary intervention”.

The statement from Mr. Zidon revealed that, “Education remains the top priority of government, and so far, implemented free education in the state with the introduction of the Ministry of Entrepreneurship Development which has trained more than two thousand youths and women in the state”, he stated.

Speaking on security, which has become an issue of national concern, Governor Finitiri stressed that his administration has restructured the security architecture of the state to curb security challenges, announcing also that he has written to the Nigeria Army for deployment of a battalion in Numan federation so as to curb emerging security threats in the area and beyond.

The Governor disclaimed the rumours that his administration has disengaged five thousand workers in the state as he reiterated that, “only workers that were employed through irregularities and nepotism were rejected, promising that government will soon employ two thousand teachers followed by health workers among others, in some ministries”.

On the issue of misappropriation of funds perpetrated by some corrupt individuals in the previous administrations, Governor Fintiri revealed his intentions to constitute a judicial panel of enquiry to probe people that looted the state coffers and bring them to book, which will serve as a deterrent to others and restore sanity in governance.

He disclosed that government found over one thousand dead persons on the payroll of pensioners in the state at the ongoing verification exercise of pensioners in the state, which he described as uncalled for and promised to address corruption in the whole system.

“This administration inherited a huge debt burden and, to clear the debt, government is paying over one billion naira monthly”, he further revealed.

Finitiri, however assured that no stone is going to be left unturned in sanitizing the system under his watch as he called for prayers and support from people.

He disclosed that directives for renovation of General Hospital, Numan has been issued, and that, the people of the local government will not be left behind in the scheme of governance adding that his administration will not betray people that entrusted it for the overall interest of the state.

In their separate speeches, spokespersons for the various groups, which include, Dr. P. P. Power, Mrs. Irene Audu, Muhammdu Hamman Dikko among others, commended Governor Umaru Fintiri for the giant strides so far achieved by his administration in the areas of security, education, infrastructure among other sectors.

They congratulated the Governor on his victory at the Supreme Court and called on him to strengthen security, establish College of Technical Education in Numan, employ their sons and daughters into government employment and complete eight road projects in Numan initiated by past administrations.
