The Delta State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has commended
The Delta State Governor, His Excellency, Senator, (Dr.) Arthur  Ifeanyi Okowa has been commended for his unrelenting and painstaking efforts to ensure that the CoronaVirus pandemic is effectively contained to completely stem the number of new Covid-19 cases in the State.

This commendation was made by the Delta state Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in a statement issued and signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza, on Friday, 17th, April 2020/.

Osuoza, in the statement, disclosed that the party was highly impressed with Deltans for their show of support for the Governor's efforts by their adherence to the operational directives issued by the Governor to stay at home and observe all the precautionary public health guidelines mandated by the relevant medical authorities, to contain the spread of the deadly Covid-19 pandemic.

"The Delta State PDP is quite impressed with the very comprehensive and pragmatic efforts of His Excellency, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to ensure that all necessities and requirements are put in place to address the outbreak and contain the spread of CoronaVirus in the State”.

According to the State Publicity Secretary, the orders and directives already issued by the Governor are borne out of a genuine desire to protect the lives and secure the health of our citizens and residents in the State because it is only with a healthy body that people can pursue interests and earn a proper living.

“The party recognizes the reality that these measures, especially the stay at home directive, will have harsh consequences on the existence of our people”.

“We have also noted the commendable display of loyalty on the part of the people to adhere to these directives and observe the rules of regular hand washing and social distancing associated with the lockdown, as the necessary sacrifice demanded of each and every one of us as we battle through this difficult period of our existence together”, he stated.

“It is against this backdrop that, the State PDP joins His Excellency in appealing to the people not to see the extension of the lockdown as punishment, but as a necessary sacrifice, that we must all make, if we desire to realize our mutual interests of ensuring a Covid-19 free state where we can all come back to our normal lives and, thrive in our various endeavours for a prosperous and stronger Delta”.

“We want to reassure Deltans that His Excellency, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has already set in motion, the process of getting the palliatives provided to cushion the harsh effects of the lockdown to the most vulnerable citizens, by personally, inspecting the food bank and giving approval for the immediate commencement of distribution of the foods and other items to Deltans”, the statement further read.

The move clearly underscores the Governor’s understanding of the pain that the extension of the lockdown has brought on the people, and we wish to seriously appeal to Deltans to embrace this gesture by once again, ensuring that they receive the Governor's well-intended initiative with their unalloyed support and goodwill.

The statement stressed that the health and well-being of the people are of major interest to the Governor since it is only someone enjoying good health that can think of doing businesses and engaging in other fruitful endeavours.

“It is therefore important to point out that the Governor has not left any stone unturned to make adequate provisions for the people because the life and good health of every Deltan is of paramount importance to him”, Osuoza said.

“Our profound gratitude goes to all donors for their various contributions and we wish to humbly call on other well-meaning individuals and organizations to extend their hands and goodwill to the State government and be our brothers keeper in the face of this crisis”.

The Publicity Secretary, in the statement on behalf of the party, thanked the media and the security operatives for their support and partnership since the outbreak of this pandemic.

“We will equally make haste to caution our journalists against the publication of fake news, especially on social media and also appeal to the officers and men of our security and supervisory agencies to display greater moderation and accommodation in enforcing the various government directives”.

“We want to specially recognize and appreciate the courageous, exceptional, and patriotic efforts of our health workers who are on the frontline of this fight to curb and contain the spread of Covid-19 in our State. Words alone cannot express the debt of gratitude which we all owe our health workers for their bravery in putting their lives on the line, round the clock, every day to ensure that this deadly pandemic does not overwhelm us”.

“We are confident that their heroic efforts will give us greater assurance that the fight against the spread of this pandemic will be won. We pray that God Almighty will continue to bless and protect you as you give life and hope to our people in this trying period”, he stated.

The Delta state chapter of the PDP therefore, appealed to Deltans for their continued support and understanding for the programmes and policies of the State government.

The PDP called on all indigenes and residents to remain calm, peaceful and orderly as the distribution of the relief packages, which will soon commence, shall cover all the various Wards and Units in the State.

According to Dr. Osuoza, measures have been put in place to ensure that the palliatives gets to the very vulnerable, irrespective of their political or other leanings.

“Together, we will defeat COVID-19”, the statement concluded.
