One
of Nigeria’s leading ‘Stand-up’ comedians, Ayo Makun has reacted to trending
comments about his acts which has seen him become very popular in the
entertainment industry.
Popularly
referred to as “AY”, the wave making ‘Stand-Up’ comedian took to his verified twitter
handle to provide some very needed clarifications about his shows that have
turned out in huge profits, running into the six digits figures.
The
ace comedian and actor had only recently, come under series of attacks by some
fans for standing a colleague in the industry, Funke Akindele and her husband
who were arrested and prosecuted over violation of the ‘Social distancing order’
by the Lagos State Government while the state was on lockdown following the
Coronavirus pandemic.
Social
media users, it would be recalled, had criticized “AY” over his refusal in telling
truth to power, following what many of them claim was because some of the
political class patronize him for "His
Dry Jokes".
Known
for his unlimited supply of tact, the popular comedian had responded to his
critics who alleged that his jokes are dry by informing that some people pay up
to five million naira for his jokes because of the grace of God that is upon
him.
According
to ‘AY’, "95 percent of those who buy tables at his shows are not
politicians as insinuated in some quarters".
In
his tweet, Ayo Mayokun had responded thus, "I was humble enough to see my
mistake, courageous enough to admit it and wise enough to correct it. If you go
beyond the insults and do your research you will find out that 95% of the
people buying my tables are not politicians".
"As
for the dry jokes, they pay up to 5M too. It is called grace", he tweeted.
