Hon Opuoru Condoles Pessu Family Over Killing of Their Son, Joseph


"I am pained by the news of the dastardly act of the Nigerian Soldier who deliberately shot at the defenseless Joseph Pessu".... Hon. Matthew Opuoru.

..... Admonished members of his constituency to be law abiding and urged them to comply and adhere strictly to Governments’ directive and orders.


Following the shooting of Mr. Joseph Pessu by military personnel on Thursday, 02 March 2020 at Ada Val Street, Ugbuwangue, Warri, the lawmaker representing Warri South II, State Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, DTHA, Hon. Matthew Poko Opuoru, has condemned the unfortunate incident.

The legislator made his position known in a statement signed by his media aide, Mr. L O. Memuduaghan as he condemned the gruesome murder of Mr. Joseph Pessu by an unidentified military personnel on detail to ensure compliance of the lockdown and restriction of movement as ordered by the delta state government.

The lockdown and subsequent restriction became necessary following the emergence of the Corona Virus Pandemic, otherwise called COVID-19.

Fielding questions from newsmen in Warri, Hon. Opuoro revealed that he was pained by the news of the dastardly act of the Nigerian Soldier who deliberately shot at the defenseless Joseph Pessu.

Opuoro stated that the deceased happens to be a bonafide member of his Constituency and particularly Pessu Ward and that the father of the deceased, Joseph, was also a known leader in Pessu and a staunch member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who has also contributed immensely to the growth, stability and development of the party in the Ward.

Hon. Matthew Poko Opuoru, in the statement, used the opportunity to thank the state governor, Sen. Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa in setting up a Panel of Enquiry that would investigate and look at the remote cause of action that led to this unfortunate incident, which led to the death of the deceased.

Governor Okowa, it will be recalled had detailed some leaders in Warri South, to go and condoled with the family of Mr. Monday Pessu, on the sudden event that led to the demise of his illustrious son, Mr Joseph Pessu, in the unfortunate circumstances that led to the incident.

Hon Matthew Opuoru therefore admonished members of his constituency to be law abiding and urged them to comply and adhere strictly to Governments’ directive and orders as regards the lockdown where all citizens of the Nigerian society, should obey and comply with the sit at home directive, consequent upon the emergence of CoronaVirus Pandemic Pandemonium.

This is in order to avert any type of accident/coincidence resulting from flouting the aforementioned Government directive and its attendant consequences, he added.
