Exclusive: How Kaduna Lawmaker hired over 30 Liaison Officers Without Salaries For 8 Months.

"The laborer is worth of his wages so says the Holy Bible in Luke 10:7b. The Islamic Hadith 2443 also corroborates same when it says "Give the worker his wages before his sweat dries". 

.....These are not just a spiritual sayings but also a moral obligation for all who hire or intend to hire.



This is not so for aides of Hon Gabriel Har, the member representing Kachia/Kagarko Federal Constituency in the National Assembly. 

The legislator, who is in his mid thirties, was elected under the platform of the APC to represent the two Local government in the National Assembly in the 2019 general elections. Many saw his emergence as a welcome development especially for the youth who have been relegated to the sidelines for decades by the older politicians.

Since his assumption of office, the Honourable's poor legislative performance has continued to raise more questions than answer especially to his critics who are of the opinion that the young legislator is not capable of providing vibrant Representation in an Assembly full of older members. 

His activities so far, have been below average as he is often seen doing the same thing his predecessors did in times past and some youths including his party members, are beginning to voice out their dissatisfactions.

According to findings from an investigation carried out by Steven Kefason, the Honourable had in July 2019, offered employment letters to over 30 aides employed as liaison Officers across the two Local Governments in his constituency.

Findings also shows that the offer letter were issued between the 14th and 15th of July 2019 with a stipulated salary of #50,000 for each Liaison Officer, an agreement the Honourable member has not been faithful to. 

It has been discovered that the member is owing his Liaison Officers 8 months salaries; a situation most of his aides and supporters believed to be an act of wickedness on the part of the Honourable whose own salaries and allowances have never been delayed or denied by the National Assembly.

According to a liaison officer from Kagarko who prefers to be anonymous, "we were employed as Liaison Officers in July 2019 and we were paid July 2019 salary and also that of December 2019 but since then till date, we have not been paid".

"I cannot explain why because we have been working and to the best of our Knowledge the Honorable is not being owed by the National Assembly", the aide revealed.

Another Liaison Officer from Kachia Local Government who also refused to be mentioned in this investigative report for fear of being persecuted, confirmed that they are being owed 8 months salaries and they do not know when the Honourable intends to pay them. 

According to him, the Honourable member, during a meeting with his campaign council and his aides at his Gwarimpa hotel in April 2020, had told his aides that the backlogs of salaries are too much for him and he doubts if he can pay them. 

"The Honourable has not told us how he intends to pay us our outstanding salaries. Members of our constituency in the grassroots now see us as unserious people. They call us Honourable, yet we cannot even recharge our phones not to talk of theirs. The Honourable member does not even take our calls any more yet, he appointed us Liaison Officers. Most of us rely on this salary to survive yet, he has owed us 8 months salaries without any explanation or plan to pay us". 

"Not even palliatives to help alleviate the suffering emanating from the Covid-19 lockdown". 

"After setting us against the people at the grassroots, he disappeared and is chilling in Abuja while we continue unsuccessfully to defend him before the electorates", the Liaison Officer said.

The Honourable member was few days ago, seen giving out money to some of his Facebook followers, an action he claimed to be Covid-19 palliatives but many are of the opinion that what the Honourable member did, was mere giveaway as majority of his constituents are not on Facebook neither was he voted on the social networking platform.

The reason why a lawmaker could giveaway #10,000 each to some Facebook followers while neglecting aides he personally employed, is a mystery many including myself are finding very difficult to unravel.
