ONLY IN NAIJA! By Orosun

"It is a shame that Merit and Excellence have criminally been relegated and substituted for Mediocrity while fairness is thrown out of the window and replaced with audacious tribalism and nepotism"..... Orosun.

I know that majority of us have heard that phrase several times before now.

Here, let me highlight a few of things that can only happen in Naija.

Though painfully and embarrassingly so, for those like me, these are the true pictures of happenings unabated in Nigeria.

It hurts me deeply that most of those joking with these, ought to be weeping over the unfortunate and dangerous  situation we found ourselves.

Like I said, I will only mention a few of the very obvious ones because, the more I recount them, the more I bleed and I don’t desire to die from hemorrhaging.

Therefore, I will limit the number. I am sure by the time you go over my scanty list, you would also have a lot to add.

1  “Only in Naija” do you have 5% greater than 95%.

2 “Only in Naija” do you have 1st Elevens, 2nd and 3rd Elevens being benched for the Academy recruits to play in very important and destiny-defining matches.

3 It is “Only in Naija” that the Goose that lays the Golden egg, gets shoved aside and the eggs plus the nest, are taken away. Yet, the Goose is always ready when called upon, for another round of laying.

4  “Only in Naija” is the “Quota System” remembered only for use, in order to gain undue advantages in areas that are not manipulatable.

5  “Only in Naija” are “elected” leaders treated and worshiped instead of being held as accountable servants that they should be.

6 “Only in Naija” are the Home Owners / Landlords scared of the Tenants and Squatters. ONLY IN NAIJA!

7 “Only in Naija” is where Indigenes will be eating crumbs from their fathers’ sweat and would be the “happiest people on earth“ while doing so.

8 “Only in Naija” are Victims treated as the offenders contrary to natural justice.

9 “Only in Naija” do you see a squirrel intimidating a powerful Leopard.

10 “Only in Naija” would a 1st Class Brain be expected to serve under a mate who finally managed to graduate 2 years after him, and the “mumu” victim would even feel being honored gladly to be appointed to do so (wait for it): in his own father’s company, figuratively.

Scenarios like these, abound in our dear Country “Naija”.

No wonder the Children and Youths of nowadays do not see the sense in “breaking” their backs to study hard in order to become somebody; instead, most of them have lost the motivation and zeal; hence their resorting to self help, quick fixes and just any way to make it in life.

It is a shame that Merit and Excellence have criminally been relegated and substituted for Mediocrity while fairness is thrown out of the window and replaced with audacious tribalism and nepotism.
