Retired Colonel Sambo Dasuki, erstwhile National Security Adviser to Nigeria's former President, Goodluck Jonathan, GCFR has reiterated that throughout his stint in office as NSA, he never campaigned for General Muhammadu Buhari (Rtd.)

Dasuki's assertion is coming up on the heels of series of allegations that he alongside other northern elites under Jonathan administration worked clandestinely against the then PDP government.

The former NSA has therefore, denied the allegations and reports that he campaigned for the All Progressives Congress or its then presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari "in whatever shape or form, before, during or after the 2015 presidential elections".

Col. Dasuki gave this clarification in a statement on Sunday titled; "I Never Campaigned For APC or Buhari, as NSA to President Jonathan".

"The truth is that I was involved in an attempt at forging an alliance between the Action Congress of Nigeria, All Nigeria Peoples Party, Congress for Progressive Change, among others, prior to 2011 elections, which was not successful", Dasuki revealed.

"My involvement in that political process ended after the elections of 2011", he stated. 

In the statement, Sambo Dasuki declared that, "At the point of accepting the appointment to serve as National Security Adviser in 2012, I made clear to President Jonathan that I had relationships with General Muhammadu Buhari of CPC, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu of ACN and Chief Ogbonnaya Onu of ANPP, among other opposition elements, and that my appointment would not cause me to sever the relationship".

"I, however, assured him that I would never betray him. As a man of honour, I kept to my words".

Dasuki stressed that,  as NSA between 2012 and 2015, he did not work against Jonathan “as being recklessly insinuated by mischief makers on their blogs and social media".
