MAGU'S TRAVAILS: Osinbajo, Mahmoud Must Resign Over Complicity, Compromise... Says Kalu
"What we've had so far is a case of using power to take away from opposition only to be looted by the people that think they have the right to our collective wealth with impunity and reckless abandon".... Kalu
Following the suspension of Ibrahim Magu, the embattled Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC there have been calls for the resignation of the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osibanjo for his complicity in the case against the erstwhile anti-corruption czar.
Making this call is Chief (Dr.) Emeka Kali, National Publicity Secretary of People's Democratic Party Youth Alliance, PDPYA.
Kalu, in a statement that has trended the news circuit, called for the immediate resignation of the Vice President of Nigeria, Prof Yemi Osinbajo following complicities and his indictment in the fraud investigation of the now suspended Ibrahim Magu, who faced a panel led by the noncompromising former Court of Appeal President, Justice Ayo Salami.
According to available reports, the now suspended Magu is being investigated for over 22 count charges of fraud and it is alleged that he (Magu) claims that he gave N4Billion to Prof Yemi Osinbajo out of the uncounted N39Billion proceed of recovery in the name of corruption fight, saying that this is a clear evidence that Buhari's administration had only been paying lip service to their much taunted corruption fight.
"What we've had so far is a case of using power to take away from opposition only to be looted by the people that think they have the right to our collective wealth with impunity and reckless abandon".
"PDP had continued to shout and expose this national rape while many see it as crying wolf because we're in the opposition, now time and realities of unfolding events have vindicated us and lay bare to the hypocrisy and deep rooted wickedness of the men who have been presiding over our ruin as a nation for over half a decade. The honourable thing to do now is for the Vice President to resign to give room for proper investigation as his continued occupation of the VP position will sway the investigation in his favour", chief Kalu averred.
Chief Kalu also lent his voice to the unhealthy relationship existing between the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan and INEC Chairman, Yakubu Mahmoud who is under pressure to rig election for APC in Edo State and other States, thereby giving them upper hand in 2023 with the promise of a second tenure for Yakubu.
"We are putting the world on notice that such attempt will be resisted as Yakubu Mahmoud have already outlived his usefulness in conducting a free and fair elections in Nigeria. Any attempt to further force him on Nigerians beyond his first tenure that is elapsing in 2020 is a call to anarchy upon the land and Senate President Ahmed Lawan will be held responsible for truncating Nigeria's democracy.
"If Buhari/APC mean well for Nigeria and not just their immediate benefits, we call on President Mohammadu Buhari to sign the electoral reform that have been sitting on his table longer than necessary. This is the only way he can prove to Nigerians that he is not an enemy of Democracy.
"We can't be doing one thing over and over and expect different result. We can't be claiming to work for the good of Nigeria while sitting on, and suffocating every reform to move the nation forward simply because it will not favour your self-styled leadership acrobatics. The pretence is over, this is time to be realistic or posterity will judge us harshly " he said.
