.... Faults Buhari’s Statement On Use Of Military To Over Run Election.
A prominent Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Delta. State chapter, Chief Sunny Onuesoke has faulted the recent statement credited to President Muhammadu Buhari on why he did not use the military to overrun 2019 general election.
Buhari, it would be recalled had said, while addressing Nigeria’s security chiefs and some governors, that his party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, could have used the military to overrun opposition states but had instead, chosen to be impartial during the 2019 general elections.
According to Buhari, his administration wanted to show Nigerians that it is humane.
Onuesoke, a former gubernatorial aspirant in Delta State described the statement as uncivil.
He stressed that despite Buhari’s attempt at making Nigerians believe that he did not use military force in the 2019 Presidential election, will not sail as Nigerians are aware that such despotic and oppressive tactics were deployed to circumvent the electoral process and the wishes of Nigerians in past elections.
The PDP Chieftain alleged that Buhari’s statement is exactly in tandem with what his party, APC did to win the last presidential election, adding that, that was what they equally did to win the elections in Ekiti, Osun, Kwara and Kogi states.
Onuesoke advised Nigerians to wake from APC bondage and ensure that they vote the party out of office in subsequent elections, beginning with the election of Edo and Ondo States.
Wondering if the Army is Buhari’s personal property, Onuesoke alleged that under the President, the APC has overrun states using the security agencies, in conjunction with INEC, dozens of elections since the onset of the regime both with inconclusive elections results.
"They tried it in River State but the people resisted them", he added.
He explained that it is absurd that Buhari is using the military to threaten harmless civilians who brought him to power.
He stressed that, "if he thinks he is very powerful, he should have used his military to crush Boko Haram, ISWAP, Bandits and kidnappers among others who are killing and causing havoc in the Northern part of the country daily".
"Contrary to Mr. President’s expressed concerns, Nigerians have never witnessed the level of electoral impunity seen under his administration", Onuesoke stated.
"The President must advise his party to allow INEC to carry out its responsibilities without interferences", he concluded.
