EDO DECIDES 2020: PDP Group Urges INEC To Uphold Results From Polling Units.

"The election umpire must be seen to be unbiased throughout the exercise, without yielding to unpatriotic federal might and fraudulent inducements by political contractors.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has been urged to uphold results announced at polling units across Edo State at the just concluded gubernatorial elections of Saturday, 19 September, 2020.

Making this appeal is the Coalition of Intelligentsia for Rule of Law and Justice, CIRLJ, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, i Benin, the Edo state capital on Sunday, 20 September in a statement issued.

In its statement, the CIRLJ reiterated that the election umpire must be seen to be unbiased throughout the exercise, without yielding to unpatriotic federal might and fraudulent inducements by political contractors.

The group in a statement on Saturday in Benin City, said Edo people have decided who should be their governor for the next four years, pointing out that results announced in public glare at polling units across the three senatorial districts substantially indicated that PDP/Godwin Obaseki is leading with a wide margin.

The statement signed by the Coalition's Chief Scribe and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Information and Strategy Management,  Dr (Barrister) Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, fciism; noted that INEC did well by counting votes at polling units but that the results so declared and signed by the parties must also reflect at the Ward results collation centres, so as to complete the circle of transparency in the entire process.

The group commended the Inspector General of Police and his men, for rendering top class professional services which brought about hitch free accreditation and voting.

"PDP-CIRJ is satisfied with the level of security services by the Nigerian Police and wish to commend the IGP and his men for a job well done. However, security should be enhanced at the Ward collation centres to sustain peace, law and order.

"INEC started well by counting votes at the polling Units and it is our appeal that the results so declared at the units must reflect correctly at the ward collation centres. 

"INEC must say NO to federal might and fraudulent pressures by political contractors, so as to enhance the image and reputation of the election umpire.

"Edo people are warming up for superlative celebration once the winner is announced, and INEC must prove that election can be transparent, free and fair in Nigeria, using Edo Decides 2020, as a classical example in this dispensation," the statement added.
