BUHARI'S INSENSITIVITY: Speech Further Exposes Him.... Says Party Deputy Scribe
"It is time for the youths to start working towards taking over power through the ballots, from the same people that have been ruling at different levels for many years now".... Rev. Olorunmagba.
Following the Nationwide protests that greeted the #EndSARS Protests that culminated in the highly unfortunate #LekkiTollGateMassacre in Lagos state, several groups, including local and international bodies, have slammed the Nigerian President for what many described as his highly insensitiveness.
Joining the fray is the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP) which has expressed it shock over the level of insensitivity, as clearly manifested in his 22nd October, 2020 speech.
Reacting to the speech, NNPP noted that, "Ordinarily one would have expected the president to show empathy over the brutal murder of unarmed peaceful protesters in Lagos State by men of the Nigerian Army, which should have triggered an apology and assurances that the perpetrators of the acts will be brought to book, but unfortunately the part of the speech that captures the protest appears more like subtle threat with no reference to the Lekki Genocide.
A statement issued on behalf of the he NNPP by its Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Rev. Emma Olorunmagba, the party stressed that "the speech should have targeted calming nerves, towards attracting the peaceful protesters to dialogue table, but the president appears to be talking more like a dictator, even lashing out warnings to the international community that only expressed their condolence over the massacre of unarmed youths, advising the government to ensure justice is served to those involved".
"The party therefore notes that with this, Nigerians, especially the youths, need to be decisive that those eighteen years and above should ensure they have their PVC and determine to retire all old and expired politicians in further elections and stand to be certain that their votes will count".
"It is time for the youths to start working towards taking over power through the ballots, from the same people that have been ruling at different levels for many years now", he said.
Reiterating the NNPP's belief in actualizing this, Olorunmagba said; "IT'S "DOABLE" IF ONLY WE ARE DETERMINED TO GET IT DONE, REFUSE TO BE BRAINWASHED AND AVOID ANY FORM OF DISTRACTION".
