MY SUPPORT FOR PRIVATISATION OF REFINERIES, OTHER SECTORS STANDS.... ONUESOKE

"Government has no business running the NNPC as the wastage there is just too much".... Onuesoke insists.

"As long as it remains in government hands, it will continue to be a tool for massive corruption".

With the ever increasing level of corruption in the Nigeria National Petroleum Company, NNPC, it has now become very pertinent to completely deregulate the oil sector and give the private sector, the chance to run the industry.

This, expectedly, would create the emergence of new refineries that will improve the vibrancy and efficiency of the sector which in the end, address the needs of the country. 

Giving this explanations is a prominent chieftain of the Delta State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Sunny Onuesoke while calling for the full deregulation of the oil industry and privatization of the nation's refineries.

According to Chief Onuesoke, it  has become very evident that earlier calls by Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, prior to the 2019 presidential election in which he, Atiku was the PDP candidate, has become justified.

He said this position had formed the reasons why he had joined others then, and till now, to support Alhaji Atiku Abubakar's proposition for the  privatization of the NNPC and other sectors of the economy by Atiku Abubakar.

Onuesoke reiterated his position while addressing journalists in Lagos recently.

He stressed that with the privatization of the refineries and other sectors of the economy, it will not only eradicate corruption, create jobs for youths, but will also, strike a balance, provide equity and fairness across the geo-political zones of the country.

He advised that government should deepen on taxes from the private.

"There is the expected development in the developed nations of Europe and, in a country like Germany,  a lot of their companies are looking for workers”, he revealed.

“The government has no business running the NNPC as the wastage there is just too much. As long as it remains in government hands it will continue to be a tool for massive corruption", he stated.

"If we fully privatize these sectors, issues of power supply will be eradicated. What people should understand is that, if our electricity sector had been fully privatised like it was done with Nitel, the problem of electricity could have become like that of telephone today".

Another sore point of reference is the Nigeria Airways that government has failed to resuscitate in spite of the melodrama that accompanied the relaunch.

"Peace Airline, a private entity that started off some years ago, is doing very well, but sadly, Nigeria Airways, that has the backing and support of the Federal government, remains grounded”.

"Let government take a cue from set global practices in the development of its economy and this nation will in no time, take its rightful place in the comity of states", he appealed.
