Cache of AK-47 rifles and ammunition intercepted at Nigerien border headed for Nigeria.

There seems to be no slack in the growing insecurity situation in Nigeria as more arms are reportedly being ferried across the porous borders from neighbouring countries.

Information making the rounds reveal that the Nigerien Security Forces at Ingall Dept around the vicinity of Agadez province, has intercepted some Toyota Hilux vans loaded  with weapons purportedly smuggled routed through crises torn Libya, enroute Nigeria.

According to reports, five (5) suspects have been arrested with a total number of Seventy-seven (77) sophisticated AK 47 rifles, Seven (7) RPGs with Chargers, and 38,000 ammunition.

Security experts have continued to raise alarm over the proliferation of sophisticated weapons into the country from its neighbouring countries even as they called on the nation's leadership to checkmate the influx.

This situation has further created apprehension and fear in many nigerians following the increased spate of banditry attacks on remote and isolated communities across the length and breadth of the country.

The question on the lips of many security experts is; when will the Government, especially at the federal level, take the bull by its horn, to address the weak borders and also, stem the tide of banditry?
