FATAL DTHA BY-ELECTION: ANOTHER PROOF DELTA APC IS A USELESS OPPOSITION.... By Zik Gbemre
"Like the unfeeling PDP, the failure of the APC to empathise with the family of the innocent voter killed in the recent Delta State Assembly By-Election for a vacant Isoko South CONSTITUENCY 1 seat, again shows what useless opposition Delta APC plays".
"Even in the self inflicted woeful defeat, Delta APC & Party Leader, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege had nothing to lose by expressing public condemnation of another fatal election victory for the ruling PDP and going further to visit the family of the killed person".
"The choice of Ogaga Ifowodo, with due respect to his eloquence and intelligence, showed the APC in the state is bereft of ideas on how to beat the ruling PDP to their dirty election games".
We have lashed Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for placing the celebration of another bloody People's Democratic Party (PDP) election victory in Delta state above the death of an innocent voter who was killed by hired hooligans/goons, who stormed Polling Unit 5, Irri Ward 10, in Isoko South LGA and hijacked voting materials.
We said that Okowa, like his predecessors at the helms of the PDP hegemony over Delta Government, is shameless for being unfeeling over the death of the innocent voter. Even the Presidency of the world's most powerful nation, US, is not worth the life of its citizen. A US President would have gone on national television (TV) to condemn the election killing, visit the bereaved family and possibly, offer compensation.
In corresponding appeal, by their indolence and sealed lips over the ugly turnout of the Isoko South Constituency 1 By-election, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta with Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, have again, also demonstrated what failed and useless opposition they play in the state.
This was an election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), a federal agency, under bloated security presence. Even if the APC failed to prove any competition against the PDP in the By-election, obviously, due to shambolic preparedness, why would the Delta APC, be as much unfeeling as the PDP, towards the death of the innocent voter?
What would Omo-Agege have lost, if he had expressed timely condemnation of the election manslaughter and pay equally, a swift condolence visit to the grieving family?
This was same inciting disposition displayed by Omo-Agege and Delta APC chieftains in the 2019 general election when a youthful APC supporter was murdered by alleged PDP hired hoodlums/goons with impunity in an election violence in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.
Of course, we are aware that Nigerian politicians are the same in character. The Deputy Senate President, who we see as half APC, half PDP, couldn't have been different from Okowa and the PDP. So egoistic, all that matters for them is win or lose elections, even if it is at the expense of innocent lives.
Again, it is appalling that APC's self-inflicted woeful loss to the PDP was induced by reactionary supremacy battle among the party leaders in the ever divisive Delta APC. This was one election the Deputy Senate President would have exerted federal might to follow the PDP pound for pound in contest.
We are not surprised though. After allegedly imposing a weak candidate, he showed no concern how the end result would pan out. As he was widely accused of betraying Great Ogboru in the 2019 governorship election, we know better that the only election Omo-Agege cares about is the seat he is contesting.
Else, why even field Ogaga Ifowodo in the first place on the said election. An election against dirty playing Delta PDP does not require academic intelligence or eloquence to pick a flag bearer. Omo-Agege should have known better that PDP plays dirty. They don't bother about a clean or brilliant candidate.
Their consideration for a right candidate is the ability to play rough, cut corners, withstand or resort to violence when occasion demands and of course, mobilise enough money to induce victory at all cost. This has been the PDP stock in trade in Delta state since 1999.
So, fielding an egghead/a highly academic, Ogaga Ifowodo, who has no electoral value in his homeland was a choice of futility. The result is the woeful defeat of the APC.
Omo-Agege and Delta APC chieftains goofed on the outcome of the By-election in Isoko south constituency 1. I am surprised there is no press statement and public comments from Omo-Agege who is assumed to be the Delta APC leader and Deputy Senate President. Election that was said to have been conducted by INEC and under the watch of the Nigerian police was marred by violence that caused the death of a human being. A bloody election victory by PDP, and APC chieftains are comfortable with the outcome. For that matter, don’t be deceived there are no opposition parties in delta. They talk tough to mislead delta public.
