GUNMEN KIDNAP AKWA IBOM SENATOR, INJURE SEVERAL OTHERS

Senator Nelson Effiong, who represented Eket Senatorial District in Akwa Ibom, in the 8th Assembly has been kidnapped in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital by unknown gunmen.

The former Senator, according to available information, was kidnapped by a gang of three  men at his lounge, a popular sit-out along Oron Road in Uyo.

The gunmen, according to the reports, stormed the popular lounge at about 9:00pm on Sunday night, opening fire on customers, after which they went away with the Senator leaving several customers at the bar, injured during the attack.

The armed men, according to eyewitnesses, stormed the sit-out in a Toyota Camry car, shooting sporadically which forced customers and other guests to scamper for safety before whisking away their target.

Confirming the incident to Channels Television, while craving for anonymity, the source disclosed that, “the senator was later whisked away by the gunmen from the scene in a Toyota Camry car to an unknown destination”.

Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO in the state, SP Odiko Macdon, also confirmed the kidnapping to Channels Television.

“The command is in receipt of the report and investigation is ongoing to get to the root of the matter”, Odiko stated.

The police spokesman further explained that the Command will issue an official statement soon.
