MEET NNAMDI KANU AND TALK.... Obasanjo Tells Muhammadu Buhari

“I don’t see anything wrong in that (Buhari meeting with Kanu). I would not object to that; if anything, I would encourage it".

Chief Matthew Olusegun Obasanjo, a foremost Nigerian leader, a retired General of the Nigerian Army and a democratically elected President and Commander-In-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces, has counselled the incumbent Nigerian President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari to, as a matter of urgency, meet with Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, before the current crisis gets out of hand.

General Olusegun Obasanjo made this known while speaking to Newsweek in London, recently.

Chief Obasanjo, who served as Nigeria’s elected President on the country's return to democracy from 1999 to 2007, stressed that the heavy-handed tactics of the Nigerian state against pro-Biafra activists; a secessionist movement that is pushing for an independent state, have not succeeded, and a more conciliatory approach is needed.

"There was nothing wrong with Buhari meeting with Kanu, according to Newsweek", Obasanjo was quoted to have said.

“I don’t see anything wrong in that (Buhari meeting with Kanu). I would not object to that; if anything, I would encourage it".

“I would want to meet Kanu myself and talk to people like him, people of his age, (and ask), what are your worries? Not only from the southeast but from all parts of Nigeria".

The ex-President cautioned that, "the Army’s harsh retaliation against pro-Biafra support is “not the solution.”
