AS SOUTHERN KADUNA PREPARES POLITICALY FOR 2023 WE CAN AFTERALL SEAVE THE BEST CANDIDATES TO REPRESENT US WHEN THE TIMES COME. By Gora Albehui Dauda

"The worst thing to have happened to us in this part of the State and by extension elsewhere is the imposition of candidates on our electorate." Gora.

The dictum in Computer Science "Garbage in, Garbage out" best captures the delima of the Southern Kaduna Nation as we travail through the murky waters of our stunted democracy. Over and over again the Southern  Kaduna Nation has had either half baked or unbaked individuals imposed on the electorate, who end up voting them to represent us.

The worst thing to have happened to us in this part of the State and by extension elsewhere is the imposition of candidates on our electorate. Where a candidate is imposed on the electorate, such at best only end up not representing the electorate who voted for them but serving the selfish interest of those responsible for the imposition.  We have had instances where more competent candidates emerged winners at the primary elections only for the thoroughly corrupt political party architecture to subvert the will of the people by imposing their favourite candidates.

The lame excuses of, oh this candidate has suffered for the party and therefore should be allowed to stand in an election is clearly a betrayal of the will of the electorate and should therefore not be tolerated any longer. Any candidate who thinks he or she stands a chance should be free to contest in the primaries and on no account should the outcome be altered. If this is standard practice elsewhere Southern Kaduna should set the correct standards. This is the only way we can strengthen our democracy.

It is not difficult AFTERALL to seave through the crowd of would be candidates with a view to arriving at the best possible candidate. The screening process is the first stage and if a thorough job is done, those who are at best pretenders will be dropped at that stage. The content of the careening team ought to be people of impeccable character who are not likely to be swayed by pecuniary inducements. The seaving process should take due cognizance of the pedegree and anticidents of the individuals throwing themselves up for the contest. We all come from villages and every village can account for their sons and daughters character wise.

The thinking here is that if an individual has done well for his or her people in the village surely such if given the chance should be able to do more for their people or community. The practice in the past where certain political godfather's make it a personal achiement to railroad their God sons or daughters into elective positions is not helping and which is why Southern Kaduna has had very poor reoresentation. Southern Kaduna has a rich reservoir of people who have distinguished themselves either in government or private businesses, this is aside many young men and women of character that we can trust to reoresent us well if given the opportunity.

Southern Kaduna has a legion of armchair critics whose main preoccupation is to criticize even those who are doing fairly well in their positions. Whilst not totally exculpating those individuals who are presently holding elective positions from the blame of non performance, we hold the view that their performance is largely below average.  The case of our elected members in the Kaduna State House of Assembly is most worrisome. One wonders if in truth those guys  are representing our people or their own personal interests.  Under the El Rufai dictatorship, Southern Kaduna has had a raw deal and our representatives have remained glued to their seats without even a mention of the travails of our people. What and who  are they scared of? If there is a case of failure, this is a classical case. Shockingly, many of those characters will be strategising on how they can return to the same Assembly to continue keeping mute in the face of the injustices inflicted on.our people by the El Rufai dictatorship. We shall  all be a bunch of idiots to allow this nonesence to be repeated. They should in unison be told that if they lack the confidence or caurage to speak out for our people, to that extent they are unworthy of representing us.

Our communities have been ravaged by the continuing Fulani reinvigorated Jihad but not for once has any of our Assembly Members raise their voices in protest. If anything, they only show up during the mass burials of the same people who were slain but the bullets, machetes and swords of the rampaging Jihadists. I thought that it would be more honourable to surmon the caurage to speak for our people and damn the consequences. That is why we voted for them AFTERALL. Did not Julious Ceaser famously declear that "Coward die many times before their deaths"? In triuth, the content of the Southern Kaduna  membership in the State House of Assembly have died many a death.

Is it possible for them to resurrect? I have my doubt and many of the Southern Kaduna folks are towing this line.

As 2023 draws nigh, Southern Kaduna must ensure that our lame dog representatives at all levels are shoved aside to make way for quality representation which.remains the only way our people can maximize the benefits of our being a part of the democratic process.

In concluding this short essay, I should make it clear that this effort has not zeroed in on any particular serving political office holder but on the totality of our representatives at all.levels. Our representative have advertently become victims of the concept of "The looking Glass self" and are now seeing themselves as all conquering heroes. They are not what they think they are without minding.the eulogies and encomiums their apologies are pouring on them.

To God Be The Glory!
