A group of Nigerians, with membership cutting across the 36 states of the country, has implored Mallam Lawal Adamu Usman, a philanthropist extraordinaire, politician and development partner in the ‘Project Nigeria, to contest for the Kaduna Central Senatorial ticket, under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
The group, under the aegis
of the “Mr. LA Support Group” made this call on Sunday, 23 January 2022 when it
visited Mallam Lawal Adamu Usman, popularly called ‘MR LA’ by his teeming
loyalists and supporters, in his office, “The Lawal Adamu Usman Foundation,” in
Kaduna.
The Mr. Lawal Adamu Usman Foundation has for over a decade, impacted positively on the lives of residents of Kaduna state, irrespective of tribe, religion and ethnicity through educational scholarships, grants, sponsorship and support in times of hardship, to less indigent persons in the society including distribution of food items.
Speaking at the occasion, Co-Convener of the Mr Support Group, Ovyeh Alaku said the purpose of the visit was to reassure Mr. LA of their continued support both as a politician and in his philanthropy to the generality of the people.
Alaku who disclosed that the group was ready to provide needed support and canvass for votes including the proper awareness and sensitization of the citizenry on his behalf, commended the philanthropist for the gestures he has made to improve on the lives of the good people of Kaduna state.
He added that, “as a group, we are ready to start projecting you and your Service To Humanity in the media so that people will know that there are still politicians of rare breed such as you so that others may borrow leaf from that and also assist some of the poor people around them.”
“We are well aware of all that transpired during the 2019 elections wherein you contested for the senatorial ticket to run as the Senator representing Kaduna Central senatorial District and how you were denied victory due to electoral manipulation. That did not deter you and your philanthropy as you continued to award scholarships to children of the poor, giving palliatives to the hungry and buying learning materials for pupils/students of the less privileged.
“We have come to persuade you, once again, to contest for the same position again, as we are ready to give you massive support even across party lines because, it is people like you Nigerians need to hold public office.
“Sir, should you refuse to answer our call to run for the office of Senator, Kaduna Central Senatorial District, we will pursue you and call for your arrest for refusing to respond to the yearnings of your teeming supporters and loyalists.
He further revealed the plans by the group that would help in realizing the aspirations and ambitions come 2023. “And as God will help us, many loopholes will be effectively blocked during the coming election in 2023”.
Co-convener of the group, Sefinatu Umaru in her address, said that the outcome of the 2019 election was a true reflection of the mindset of the people of Kaduna Central Senatorial District as they voted for a candidate of their choice, Mr. LA but was denied victory.
Ms Umaru further stressed that the lapses observed during the 2019 elections are some of the issues that requires redress especially as it pertains to security of officials during and after the elections as she recounted her experiences as a Polling official and representative of the party’s flag bearer.
Director of the Mr. LA Foundation, Toba Owojaiye, thanked the group for the visit and their reassurances in promoting the Foundation, with its motto; Service To Humanity.
According to Owojaiye, the Foundation has been consistently pushing for an improved standard of living for the citizenry including the well being of students and the indigent in the society but has, as part of its style, maintained its motto to Serve humanity without recourse to much publicity in all of its activities.
In his response, Mallam Lawal Adamu Usman, aka Mr. LA, commended the group for taking out time to pay him a visit and for the reassurances of their support and their call on him to run for the 2023 elections as Senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District.
He assured them of his commitment to continue with his human capacity development, which is top of his priority even as he promises to do his best, with God on his side, to continually, put smiles on the faces of people.
On the call to run for election into the senate, Mr. LA disclosed that, he will do his best possible to answer the call of his people as that is one way to help develop the people and his senatorial district at the National Assembly where laws are made for the better good of the citizenry and the larger society.
