A Nigerian lawyer named Jimoh Ibrahim claimed during a Channels Television interview that 

A notable businessman and member of the Nigeria judiciary, Barrister Jimoh Ibrahim stated that the country's 16th President and Commander-in-Chief,  Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu was not elected President because he is a Muslim or otherwise.

According to Jimoh Ibrahim, "religion has no bearing on the governance of Nigeria. 

He gave this assertion while responding to questions bothering on the role of religion during an interview with Channels Television recently.

Mr. Ibrahim, during the television show, disclosed that; "Before becoming a Christian, that he was a devout Muslim. Despite being an Alhaji, his father attends Winners Chapel Church." 

In an obvious reaction to the statements and comments of the former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir Ahmed el-Rufai, who, in a Radio programme opined that the use of religion was responsible for the successes gained by his administration, Jimoh Ibrahim stated that "religion has no bearing on how well a government functions."

He acknowledged telling the former Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osibanjo that "religion does not satisfy the statistically significant threshold of 0.5 after observing him making certain remarks regarding religious beliefs."

"What does that have to do with effective government, in his opinion? Is that a measuring tool? Would that be a parameter? Do you imply that because you are a religious man and this is a secular state, you will succeed? Ask for the number of Muslims in the list of 10 billionaires. They make up roughly 2%; the remainder are Christians. Stop this religious nonsense; I don’t want to hear it. 

"Efficiency is not influenced by religion. Before becoming a Christian, I was a Muslim.

"My dad was an Alhaji. I have since become a Christian. Everyone is aware that I visit Winners Chapel. Is religion the only factor when all other factors are taken into account? There are more than six different variables. In order to determine whether the variables of religion satisfies the statistically significant test of 0.5. "Is religion scoring 0.5%?" I asked Osibanjo, who I had lately seen expressing his views on these religious issues. Was Asiwaju’s election as Nigeria’s President based on his religion? He queried.

It is pertinent to note that several negative comments have trailed the claims by the former governor of Kaduna State concerning the position of religion in governance. 

Some Nigerians have castigated the comments credited to Nasir el-Rufai as it is viewed as capable of inflaming crises in the country, insisting that the former governor, known for his divisive comments and statements be cautioned for such statements.
