Abuja, Nigeria: Nigeria's Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako has announced the official launch of the National Health Research Ethics Committee (NHREC) Electronic Protocol Submission Platform (NHREC E-PORTAL).
The launch, according to a statement signed by Dr. Lolade Dosunmu Adeyemi, Special Adviser on Research and Innovation, on behalf of the Honourable Minister of State Health, is a milestone achievement following the formal unveiling of the platform on October 4, 2024.
"It reflects the Ministry’s commitment to modernizing health research governance through digital innovation." The statement noted.
"The NHREC E-PORTAL is a secure, user-friendly platform developed to streamline the submission, review, monitoring, and approval of health research protocols in Nigeria. It replaces the previous manual and email-based system, that enhances transparency, accountability, and operational efficiency, in line with global best practices".
The Honourable Minister of State, Health, Dr. Iziaq Salako therefore commended the leadership of NHREC, technical partners, and development sponsors whose support has made this transformative initiative a reality. All researchers, institutions, ethics committee members, and stakeholders in the research ecosystem are encouraged to begin using the platform from today.
The launch of the NHREC E-PORTAL marks a pivotal step toward strengthening ethical oversight and fostering excellence in health research across the country.
