In the aftermath of the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal which upheld the electoral victory of the Distinguished Senator Lawal Adamu Usman, aka, Mr LA, representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, political pundits and stakeholders alike have commended the decision of the Election Petitions Tribunal for standing on the side of truth and justice.

Distinguished Senator LA, who is the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has instituted a case of defamation of character (Libel) against the APC candidate, Muhammad Sani Abdullahi Dattijo and a claim of #5bn, a public retraction and public apology.

This libel suit has been described as necessary following the attempts by the APC and its candidate to smear the good names of the Distinguished Senator Lawal Adamu Usman.

"Senator LA," whose philanthropy, goodwill and grassroot popularity saw to his electoral victory despite concerted attempts by the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Muhammad Sani Abdullahi Dattijo and his political party to mislead the Tribunal.

Sources in the know who caught a glimpse of available documents before the court reveal that;

• The said Muhammed Sani Abdullahi maliciously alleged the offence of certificates forgery against Distinguish Senator Lawal Adamu Usman (Senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District) in his petition before the 2023 National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal Kaduna for which if convicted, the Senator could have been subjected to a conviction for serious electoral offence of presenting forged credentials to INEC.

• The heavy and weighty allegations made by the said Muhammed Sani Abdullahi were consequently published in his petition before the said Election Petition Tribunal against Senator Lawal Adamu Usman in PETITION NO: EPT/KD/SEN/O1/2023 BETWEEN ABDULLAHI MUHAMMAD SANI VS. LAWAL ADAMU USMAN and the PRINT AND ELECTRONIC MEDIA directly referring to the Senator by name as one who submitted forged documents to INEC and contested elections knowing that the defamatory and libelous statements were false.

• The false allegations of forgery by the said Muhammed Sani Abdullahi were known to him to be false owing to the fact that the witnesses that testified on his behalf before the Tribunal affirmed the authenticity of the Senator’s certificates issued by NECO, AHMADU BELLO UNIVERSITY, ZARIA, and AMIR ABDULKARIM TAHFEEZUL QUR’ANIC SCHOOL ZARIA

• That Muhammed Sani Abdullahi’s witnesses denied the allegations that the Senator forged the certificates as alleged by the Senator in his Forms CF001 and EC 8(a) submitted to INEC for the 2019 and 2023 elections respectively.

• The false allegation by the said Muhammed Sani Abdullahi against the Senator which publication was widely circulated by the print and electronic media ridiculed publicly the reputation of the Senator which has caused irreparable damage to his character and personality

• The National Assembly Elections Petition Tribunal Kaduna, dismissed the entire allegations against the Senator by Muhammed Sani Abdullahi haven found that same was not just unproven but that the contrary was what was proved.

To this end, concerned stakeholders and political leaders with concerns for good and sustainable development of the state and nation at large, have expressed fears concerns if such persons who deliberately try to mislead the courts are let off the hook, so easily without as much as proper sanctions and fines to serve as deterents.

Meanwhile, congratulatory messages have continued to pour in torrents to Distinguished Senator Lawal Adamu Usman, "Senator LA" for his resounding electoral victory both at the elections and at tribunal with many describing the decision of the National Assembly Petitions Tribunal as the "act of God" and the Goodwill of his ever increasing supporters whose membership cuts across tribes, religion and ethnicity.
