THE LIVES AND TIMES OF MAMA HELEN ANUWETIE OKIOKPA (Nee Futugha)

The final interment rites for late Madam Helen Anuwetie Okiokpa (Nee Futugha) has come and gone but not with the family forgetting to appreciate friends and relations who showed love and support by attending the burial rite of their beloved daughter, sister and mother.

In a ‘Thank You Message’ made available to journalists in Sapele, Mr Clifford Okiokpa while speaking on behalf of the family of Late Pa Johnson A Okiokpa, of Ugborhen in Sapele Local Government Area Delta state, expressed his heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to friends for their immense show of support and love during the burial rite of his mother.

Mr. Okiokpa in his message prayed for God’s mercies upon everyone who attended the burial rites of his beloved mother including those who sent in prayers saying that, ‘with the new year; 2024, many good things will locate everyone of us and our loved ones.

”Speaking on Mama’s early life and background, Mr. Clifford gave a brief narration as to the earlier years of his beloved mother and how she toiled to ensure that everyone of her children became educated and independent.He described the efforts of Mama as untiring and motivating which he and his siblings remain grateful.

“The result of her struggles and determination are evident today; that we can read and write today was because of her strong belief and push for the power of education. Mama, we say a big thank you."

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND 

Mama was a strong advocate and lover of education but unfortunately she was not privileged of having the opportunity of attending but vowed and made it a strong obligation and her duty that all and any of her offspring must pass through the educational system and attain quality education, through her sweat and means.   

The result of her struggles and determination are evident today; that we can read and write today was because of her strong belief and push for the power of education. Mama, we say a big thank you.

CHRISTIAN LIFE

Mama was a devoted Christian, baptized into the body of Christ and a member of the Bethel Baptist Church, (Oghene Road) Sapele by the late Reverend Dr W.A Ikpen JP of blessed memory. 

She was an active member of the Women Missionary Union WWU of the Bethel Baptist Church and a respected member of the Itsekiri Class (Sunday School).
