NATIONAL SPORTS FESTIVAL: MOC Chairperson, Committee Members Undertake Facilities Inspection Tour In Ogun State

.... Committee commend the Ogun state government for its commitment towards the completion of ongoing construction and renovation works to ensure a smooth sports competition for athletes coming from the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory.
Ahead of the 22nd National Sports Festival slated for January 12th to January 26th in Abeokuta, Ogun state, members of the Main Organizing Committee of the 22nd National Sports Festival alongside official of the Federal Ministry of Sports recently, conducted a facility inspection tour to ascertain the standard and quality of facilities on ground.
The delegation was led by the Chairperson, Mrs Tinuke Watti Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Sports Development, Abuja.
In a meeting convened after the tour with the Chairman Local Organizing Committee (LOC), Hon. Olapade Bukola, Ogun state Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Hon. Wasiu Isiaka and other officials, the MOC Chairperson explained that apart from ascertaining Ogun State’s level of preparedness to host the bi-annual event, the tour equally underscores the ministry’s commitment to ensuring a hitch-free festival which she described as a platform for unity, talent discovery and promotion of healthy competition among states.
She expressed satisfaction with the standard of facilities so far put in place as well as the speedy completion of on-going projects and the substantial progress being made in upgrading, renovation and implementation of what she termed as world class safety measures.

Mrs. Watti commended the Ogun State government, the LOC and other partners involved for their dedication to serve.
“I wish to commend the Ogun state government for its commitment towards the completion of ongoing construction and renovation works to ensure a smooth sports competition for athletes coming from the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory,” she said.
Speaking on behalf of Ogun State government, the Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Wasiu Isiaka said that Ogun State government was committed to human capital development, giving priority to Youths development in order to enable them contribute to nation building.
In his remarks, the LOC Chairman appreciated the Ministry for its encouragement and assured that Ogun State government would do its best to host the event successfully with a world class touch.
The Secretary of the MOC, Thecla Opara reminded the meeting that at the last council meeting on sports it was resolved that deaf and clamping sports were made compulsory, while mixed martial and fives games were optional for states participating in the festival.
The LOC Secretary Dr. Kweku Tando hinted that for the first time, Ogun state would accommodate all the athletes and coaches in one place which would make coordination and control easier during the festival, adding that there was a provision for volunteers to come in to help athletes and other officials in locating sports venues and other related matters.
Facilities visited during the tour include the Babcock University where all athletes and coaches would be accommodated, the Remo Football Club facility, the Abeokuta Sports Club, the Abeokuta Golf Club and the Ogun State NYSC Orientation Camp.
